That makes sense. For some reason I kept thinking this was sent to everyone via email…or else I wouldn’t have been freaking out ;P

3.95 GPA, 2240 SAT, 800, 790, and 770 SAT IIs…

Is it wrong that I’m bitter about getting this letter? I mean I didn’t expect to get Trustee or anything or even Presidential, but the least they could have done was update my status. That is, unless others with stats comparable to mine are in the same situation. In that case, I guess it’s just a matter of bad luck. In the other case, I’m seriously starting to get worried about other schools if I can’t even get considered for scholarships at USC.

I’d still be happy to get deans, but even that seems unlikely now…hopefully other schools will see more in my application than USC did.

lol hmmmmmmm that’s almost exactly how i was feeling earlier. although, i am a little better off than you; i got the dean’s scholarship, but i was expecting more. i thought my stats were enough, but apparently not. and this experience has made me worried about my other schools too…

all we can do is hope now. it’s out of our hands. good luck!!

yeah, i would have even just been happy with an acceptance now. But I mean, were my stats really too low even to get accepted already, forgetting about scholarships? (just in comparison to those already accepted)

I can only hope USC just really saw nothing in my essays. Admittedly, I didn’t try the hardest on them; at least not as hard as on other schools (ie UC’s). If this is a stats/EC’s problem, I may be screwed for good.

Getting a scholarship at USC is just like getting accepted at an Ivy. It takes a lot of luck. You’ve done everything you could to increase your chances, but it’s out of your hands now. Just because you didn’t get a top scholarship at USC (a Deans is quite an accomplishment, by the way!) doesn’t mean you can’t get into Harvard, for example. Don’t let this discourage you.

Same!
3.8 GPA, 2340 SAT, 800/750/710 SAT IIs, lots of EC, good essays, and I got that same letter too! I have the N’tnl-Merit to fall back on though…

I think there are a lot of factors that they consider, not just stats. For me, I know people with lower scores than me who already got in, with a scholarship too.

if they don’t send it out to everyone I would consider it maybe as a “likely letter” for being admitted in the later rounds.

It’s kind of sad that you get a letter telling you that you are not getting Presidential/Trustee then they turn around to tell you that you are not being admitted. It’s like getting hit twice. It would have been better to get a rejection letter and be done with it. Now the rest of us are just waiting.

My son and his friend both got the same letter also. Son has 4.0 uw gpa, 2290 SAT I and friend has similar stats.

Every college has its own critieria when evaluating applicants. Not getting a big scholarship from USC means nothing to the other colleges’ adcoms. Although disappointing, hang in there.

Best wishes.

itsv,

Did your son’s status changed from ‘reviewing’ to 'completed review"??

A few of us noticed that status change just now…

My status changed to “completed preliminary review…”

does anyone know if this is a positive or a negative change?

My son’s still says “Your application has been forwarded for committee review.” Did anyone receive an acceptance letter and there website still said something like above statement?

for those of you that received this letter already, where are y’all from? Just to get a sense of the speed of the mail.

We live on the central coast between Monterey and SF.

Collegeproject, I just checked my son’s status and it nows says the preliminary review status others are reporting. Yesterday when I checked after getting the letter, his status showed what it has for about the past 3-4 weeks of your application is being reviewed by the admissions committee. I went to the dentist today and her son got the same letter yesterday. Her son is a top student and has guaranteed admission to a UC school so I was sort of surprised he wasn’t already accepted. Hope this info is helpful.

I just received the letter today. My status on the website still says “Your application is being forwarded for committee review,” whatever that means.

My son’s status changed to “completed review/may request grades, etc.” but we still did not get a “no scholarship” letter, and we live in socal. Anyone else have the new status and no letter?

I should also mention that my son is a performance applicant who auditioned for Thornton. His stats are good enough for USC but not good enough for a scholarship based on stats alone. He felt his audition went very well. From what I’ve heard and read here, the admissions process works differently for music applicants.

My son received the same letter today. We live in the west, but not CA. I don’t know what his status on the website says.

@jazz/shreddermom, my status also changed, but i have no letter. but I do live on the east coast, so i’ll update you in a couple of days.
btw, did your son apply by dec 1st? because I think only people who applied by dec 1st and didn’t get the scholarships get the letter.
