I'm not sure of the actual student traffic that comes through here, but I thought I'd post this anyways in the case someone has a child or is a member of the band and would lose their papers they got. I'll type in the letter and camp schedule, and answer any questions, of course :) See you all soon!!

July 28, 2009

Dear Scot Marching Band member,

I extend a hearty and warm welcome to everyone who has signed up to participate in what promises to be a great Scot Marching Band! Those of you who will be a part of the Scot Band for the first time will no doubt be impressed by the welcoming nature of the returning band members and I'm confident that within a couple of hours of your arrival, you will already have made many new friends and will feel a part of something very special on this campus.

This letter contains final detailed information about band camp and the marching season. I recommend that you read this letter daily and guard it carefully, because the launching of the new website has made it difficult for me to get everything posted there as I would normally do. Room keys (you will be in your own rooms) may be obtained at the Keys and IDs office in the Security Building on Wayne Avenue, across from Wagner dorm and just east of the Wellness Center. You will use your IDs for meals, so ifyou plan to eat be sure to have it with you!! First-year students will obtain IDs either in the same place or in Lowry Center (Friday or Saturday 9a.m.-5p.m.) and you will save a lot of time if you have submitted your picture in advance as you were asked to do. I suggest that first-years obtain your ID as soon as you arrive so that you will be able to eat all of the elegant cuisine that is prepared for you! The first meal (except for ealy returning officers, rank leader candidates, and percussionists) will be at 5:30pm on Saturday, August 15th.

The first meeting is at 4:00p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Scheide Gault Recital Hall. Please be prepared to pay a fee of $5.00 for your music at this meeting - no money, no music! It is also advisable to pay the other fees listed below at this time. BRING INSTRUMENTS!

If you need to check out a school instrument, you may do so from 4:30-5:30p.m. on Saturday in Scheide. Please be prepared to pay a $30.00 deposit for any school instrument that you check out; $20.00 will be refunded when the instrument is returned in good condition and its locker is clean and empty of personal items.

You will need a $30.00 uniform deposit; $20.00 will be refunded when the uniform is returned. You are responsible for providing your own black shoes to wear with the uniform. The spats cover most of the shoe, so just be sure that the shoes are plain black and that they are comfortable.

We should be able to provide a full uniform in good condition for everyone in the band, but we will need to decide whether to continue the use of t-shirts to give a standardized look when the weather is too warm for jackets or when it's warm enough that we need to remove the jackets while sitting in the stands. Also, if you need a lyre for your own instrument, please obtain one and bring it to school; we provide lyres only for school-owned instruments. We do not require memorization, although many students choose to do so. (Flute players almost always memorize since there is no such thing as a good flute lyre!)

The enclosed schedules are as accurate as possible at this time, but there could be a few minor changes. If we all remember that the Scot Band motto is flexibility, everything will work well.

Finally, it is not possible to accomodate requests for you to move into your room prior to your schedule arrival date (except in unusual situations such as arriving from the west coast or a foreign country. If it is crucial for you to arrive earlier, you will need to obtain a motel room until the 14th or 15th, whichever isthe appropriate day for you to move into your campus housing. In other words, percussionists, rank leader candidates, and officers should plan to arrive on the 14th and all others on the 15th. A list of motels and phone numbers is provided.

Meals and housing for Band Camp are covered by the Scot Band as long as you conscientiously meet the expectations that we have for all band members; these include attendance at all rehearsals and performances throughout the season unless excused in advance or for an emergency. We are more than reasonable when there is a need for someone to miss a band event, but we also expect prior notification in a responsible manner.

We have a great group of students attending camp, so it should be another fantastic year! With a lot of hard work on the part of everyone (including the staff), we will surely be The Best Darn Small College Band In The Land (TBDSCBITL)! I'll see you sooner than you think! I can't wait to get back to teaching, to meet all of the new students, and to see all of the returnees again!

Sincerely,
Nancy Ditmer
