For those of you who are also applying for financial aid...

To which universities are you applying and what do you want to major in?

Me:

Major: Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

University of Pennsylvania
Washington University in St Louis
University of Miami
Lafayette College

also considering Lehigh, Bucknell, Princeton, Case Western, Virginia Tech...

Any suggestions about univ strong in engineering and generous towards international students would be very, very welcome! :D

lipgloss, what r ur stats ?

UPenn is not generoustowards intels. Not sure about the others. Of course, Princeton is generous.

have all of u completed you CSS profile??...u need it for the fin aid right??

dexter87 , approximately how much $$$ I have to declare in my Certification of finances ?

I was accepted by Lafayette College, with a family contribution of 500 dollars each year.

woow thats great news

This does not correlate very well with your 690 Math SAT score. Retake the SAT in December/November (standby testing)!

As about chances for Ivy League, I'm pretty sure you can get into Cornell or Brown, but it really matters whether you want FA or not. All other ivy schools are more or less a lottery.

as far as I know Cornell isn't generous about fin aid. they have few international students and most of them are from Asia. that's what I know. wanted to apply there but got discouraged because of this.

uhh why aren't you applying to MIT? This could be your good reach.
they are needblind and their engineering programme is one of the strongest in the country.
And they have said that they only admit intels with significant achivements in international/national/regional level. In this, case, you would be in the national level.. did you get through to the IMO?
Oh and they admite a high number of intels each year.. well, more than HYP anyways.

I believe MIT has a 5% international acceptance rate....:p

Amherst has an acceptance rate of around 10% for internationals, with or without Financial Aid.

Regarding MIT, I know this is one of the most selective schools in America and I am almost sure there would be tons of other intel students with higher scores and better transcripts. I don't know... I just don't see how I could have a realistic chance of getting in.

I have a lot of friends who are rejected everywhere only to be accepted by MIT.

yeah...MIT has a peculliar way to choose its students. they can accept someone who won't get in in any ivy, or could reject someone desired by all the other top schools.you could still try your chance. ;)

no one told me about the CSS profile....has everyone filled it??

not yet.... but have to by Tuesday.
