My D's school is like that, and I hate that I can't afford to send her to one of the fancy privates.
School canceled Friday before and Tuesday after MLK day because they can't afford the heat bill.
No AP's, Just started some honors classes. (My fault) Spanish offered only Jr. and Sr. year by a Russian Woman.
If it's not sports, especially football, it isn't important.
Non-sports EC's are Beta Club, Student Council, Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders. All take place before school once a week for 30 minutes.
No emphasis on any college other than State U.
One middle school is falling down, but they found 7 million for a gym at the worst academic High School.
Oh and we have three high schools in a a county with less than 1500 high schools. But combining them all would ruin the football rivalry. Go figure.
So where do kids from crappy high schools plan to go? Do you head to Ivies, where your at a big disadvantage with the kids from better schools, i.e. more AP's, better music and art programs, better teaching? How well do these kids do compared to those kids. Are you more comfortable in state honors programs,or less prestigious LAC? Does the higher economic level of the kids even matter?
Also LKei, what kind of club did you start? I'm trying to get my daughter to consider doing that.

Our principal only cares about those students that won national competitions, the others don't matter. If there's a whole class of average students she dislikes the whole class.

The school does nothing for its upperclass-students.

Two out of Three Stalls in every bathroom are somewhat disfunctional, sometimes the door won't shut or the toilet itself doesn't work.

I've had a book for my german class that was printed in 1954. Even I was surprised and by that time I got used to having old books in class.

The gym was rebuilt a few years ago, but the whole building needs to be renovated, but why bother when our principal can re-do something vital as her parking space?

My school claims to be an art-focused school, but didn't offer an higher level art class last year.

The Computers often don't work at all or aren't connected to the Internet.

Yeah my school is crappy, but then most schools around here. Guess Schools aren't my state's highest priority. Surprisingly my school isn't that bad academic-wise.

The stalls at my school don't even have doors (Yikes!). So every time I walk through the bathroom I have to look at someone taking a dump. It's worst when I'm washing my hands at the sink and I can see someone in the mirror taking a crap in the stall behind me.

In one of the gym bathrooms in my school, there aren't even stalls. It's just a wall of toilets.
It's like they're trying to promote homosexuality..

We also have double drinking fountains. That's the only rich thing about the place..

I feel that my crappy, public high school has made me a better person.

That's what we're all betting on.

not crappy just lacking courses. we don't have french above the level of 3 and we have spanish all the way and i'm taking french

My school has okay infrastructure, just is lacking in classes.

we cant even take more than 2years of a class

We are a medium school... we have a nice but not stunning array of classes, a slightly messed up weighting system (catering to non-top students), a lot of students go to the same colleges, etc. But we have mainly good teachers and have decent class sizes (300-400 per year).
