For those of you who haven't yet received your financial aid package

Financial aid package finally came today. VERY generous. Definitely a contender.

@reformedman That list could expand depending on what major the student is pursuing. When we appealed a couple years ago we sent them a copy of the offer from another tech school thatā€™s not on that list, but their architecture department was ranked a couple spots higher than RPI that year (and we mentioned that in the letter).

I donā€™t know if things changed last year, but we were told to just send an email with a scanned copy of the other letter. Is this list of schools actually on the form they had you submit? Interesting!

William and Mary is a top public school, ranked number 32 overall, and a lower acceptance rate than RPI. With that being said, RPI is still my first choice but I would not mind going to W&M for free. Does anybody know if they view William and Mary as ā€œin their laneā€ considering that they donā€™t specialize in engineering?

Mine came in, worth the wait like you said.

@FebruarysFinest how were you notified? My son called today and it shouldnā€™t be long fingers crossed

@FebruarysFinest It canā€™t hurt to appeal with a package from William & Mary. I appealed with my package from Purdue University and a full ride from Stony Brook and was able to get a little more. But, again, it really matters how much they want to entice you to enroll based on your credentials and it definitely helps more to have top engineering school scholarship letters when appealing at RPI, though not a requirement.

@mom2cats I was notified through email of a status update.

Still nothing :slightly_frowning_face:

I got mine!

Still waitingā€¦

@Cgaope Call the financial aid office - you might be missing documents. Also ask for an estimate of when theyā€™d give you your aid package.

@joedoe I did yesterday. They arenā€™t missing anything just have a backlog to get through. Said I should have it by end of week.

I am still waiting :frowning: is there anyway to see if I am missing any documents?

@Julieryoo Call the financial aid office! Ask and also ask for the status of your package.

Did anyone hear from financial aid.

I only submitted FAFSA and CSS today and was told I could expect a wait of around two weeks to hear a reply.

I will respond back, hopefully with favorable news.

Despite being told the review would take two weeks I just received a reply. I was flatly denied any aid whatsoever and informed that the decision was non-negotiable.

Donā€™t give up hope, FAFSA needs to be filed early. You applied for it many months late. FAFSA applications start in October so it may be that you would have gotten aid if you filed earlier.
Hereā€™s a quote from [THIS LINK](https://blog.ed.gov/2017/09/3-types-of-2017-fafsa-deadlines-you-should-pay-attention-to/)

If itā€™s the case that you filed too late- who knows you might get FAFSA otherwise for next year so you might want to consider taking a gap year. But be cautious though because the reason you may have been rejected for aid is because your family earns too much to qualify. Suggestion: Try to fill out the [Net Price Calculator](Net Price Calculator) as accurately as you can and see what it says.

Thanks for your replies, advice, and sympathy. I was very hopeful to be able to attend RPI in the fall but this turn of events has killed that possibility. That said, I have some other options that may be more promising so I am taking it in stride.
