For those on the waiting list FYI

The number of WL candidates admitted to the class to which they applied. The number of Z offers is usually the same every year. Not all Z's are legacies. I am a Z and I know many other Z's and the majority of the ones that I know aren't Z's. Just keep hanging in there!

umm...what exactly is a Z?

Z = admitted to the class graduating one year later than to the one you applied, so it would be like you being admitted to the Class of 2012.

"Z = admitted to the class graduating one year later than to the one you applied, so it would be like you being admitted to the Class of 2012."

how is this possible?

the offer requires that you take a gap year, so that you enter with students who apply normally for entrance in Fall 2008. Harvard suggests a gap year to all of its admitted students, and having done it, I can tell you that it has undoubtedly changed my life and prepared me more for Harvard than I can imagine. Others who have taken a gap year will pretty much tell you the same thing.

I agree, having known a few kids who did gap years. (For Harvard and elsewhere.)
