Do your research about the place. I am a junior level transfer attending my fall quarter here. The rumors are true. Lots of pretentious people, shallow and pervasive culture, and intellectually unstimulating. I really only came here because they gave me the option of switching majors upon entering, unlike other schools. Some may find the activities here appealing, but not all. Just a heads up

I’m also a junior level transfer here for my first quarter and I completely disagree with all of this.

I’m going to have to agree with mermaker. I’m not a UCSB student, but I’ve only heard good things about the campus from the people who attend the school with you being the obvious exception.

It’s all about perspective and how you choose to create the experience. Most colleges or universities provide the students with a plethora of organizations/clubs/greek life and other sorts of exceptional ways to improve the experience. UCSB definitely is a social campus and there is a LOT you can get involved with (for better or worse).

Like I said, the experience is what you make it, if you feel like everyone is pretentious or unapproachable, then maybe you need to re-evaluate who you are choosing to interact with. Maybe the individuals you are looking to talk to are not necessarily in the same mind-set as you, especially being a transfer student you have had to work much longer and hard to attend UCSB (in comparison to newer freshmen, who tend to be more egotistic and naive IMO).

Change your mind, change you life and you will change the experience.

goodluck.

If you can’t have fun in beautiful Isla Vista my friend, the blame is solely on you!

^ seriously. The only people I’ve met that have complained are complete social introverts. I’ve had the best month of my life here. Clubbing, hiking, French dining downtown, wine tasting at SY valley, parties… There’s a little bit of everything. No regrets.

I was at UCSB for Halloween.

BOY Isla Vista is crazy fun and I have a lot of friends that go there that agree. If I don’t get into USC, I’m definitely going to UCSB since I TAG’d.

I don’t know why you say your experience has been not so great, there’s just no way you can’t have a great time there.

Kevin, do they give an option to change majors for everybody?

kevin is just probably an antisocial lowlife in a easy major. try meeting other people.

OP has upset the masses. Good job OP.
