For those who remember...this is what happened

It's been a long time since I've posted here. Reading CC started to make me feel too anxious about the process, so I decided to take a break until all the decisions had been made. Some of you may remember that my daughter applied ED to Scripps and had buyer's remorse. I posted about whether to change the application back to RD. Most of you advised against it. After talking to my daughter, she decided to revert back to RD and we hoped that Scripps wouldn't hold it against her. In the end, she applied RD to Scripps, Pomona, Pitzer, the UC's, University of Puget Sound, Brown, and Wash U. She was accepted to all the UC's including Honors at Irvine, UCLA, Berkeley, accepted to Puget Sound (with a merit scholarship), Pitzer (with a merit scholarship) and Scripps. She was waitlisted at Wash U and rejected at Brown and Pomona. She hasn't regretted the decision to just apply RD everywhere, and it obviously didn't negatively affect her application to Scripps (much to their credit, I think). What we learned in the process is that ED was not for her, even though it likely would have helped her at Wash U. We also visited UCLA, and my daughter and I both were surprised at how much we loved the school and the campus. It is worlds apart from Scripps (except for the weather), and she's now in the difficult position of deciding between 2 schools that couldn't be more different, but that both offer wonderful things. We're planning to visit both next weekend.

Congratulations to you and your daughter! She didn't hurt herself at all re Scripps and her ED pullout, and she has other wonderful choices as well.
As I recall, it was your idea that the ED might be the safest route, and your daughter was less sure. This is another testament to the kid's knowing what's best for them (most of the time.) Good for her for having the confidence to go with her gut!
ED is a wonderful choice when kids really have a favorite and want to make that known. Otherwise, it can create regret and problems, particularly financial ones.
thanks for letting us know how it all turned out. UCLA and Scripps- great options!

UCLA and Scripps! Congrats!--

Thanks! Yes, you are right- I was the one who felt compelled to do ED because of the number of other girls applying from her high school. As it turned out, all three who applied were accepted.

I am so glad that things have worked out well for your daughter, and that she now has the good fortune of being able to choose among many schools. Even if she decides on Scripps in the end, she will never be left wondering or feel that she was pressured into an early choice. And who knows? Maybe she will just decide that UCLA is where she needs to be. Good luck!

Thanks for bringing us up-to-date. I had wondered what had happened.
It looks like everything worked out for the best.
