For US students, how much does the senior year really matter?

I’m from Canada, so I don’t know the exact details of how US high schools function, since there are several differences between Canadian and American high schools.

My question is: In the US, how much does the senior year really matter for college admissions? Since in the US, you apply to college around December of your Senior year, then what about any extra-curricular activities that you take part of, or become president of or whatever, a little before, or after your admission is sent?

Here in Canada, what happens is that the Senior year and its marks (from September to about January, mainly) are the most important of the entire high school experience. Those are what is sent to the Canadian universities, and grade 11 marks are sent in only upon request, that sort of thing.

<p>The first half still matters as colleges will usually look at that. It's pretty rare that they look at the second half all that much, however.</p>

<p>i think that colleges look at junior year the most but also first half of sr year.</p>

<p>senior year doesn't really matter as greatly as soph/junior, you just have keep a 3.0 unweighted or a similar calibre gpa so your admission won't get rescinded (varies from college to college). obviously, for the more elite and selective insitutions, you will have to really keep your same level of achievements, but it's more for maintaining your admission, not for obtaining your admission.</p>
