fordham columbia engineering 5 year co-op / dual degree program

thoughts?

Uhhhh . . . . maybe a few details about the program?

Is this a 4+1 program where you start at Fordham and finish at Columbia school of engineering?

Learning to write a full sentence or even a full paragraph can be a helpful skill set as you move forward.

Not to get too preachy but please try to remember to help the people who are helping you. Make their lives easier. It will make your life easier.

^ 3-2

You need to get at least a B in all required courses (one B- would sink you) and meet a certain GPA (I believe 3.3) in order to get the guaranteed transfer. Do you have any other engineering options?
Because of the requirements (and because kids change their mind, etc.), relatively few kids transfer from any school, but because Columbia has the 3-2 program with a gazillion colleges, a few hundred transfers start there every year.

Find out how many people start this program and how many actually switch to Columbia. In general the numbers are pretty low for these types of programs. I love Fordham (my S went there) but IMO if you want to be an engineer it is usually best to go to a college that offers engineering.

It may be low, but there are students who succeeded in completing the program. There were several Oberlin classmates who successfully completed 3-2 engineering programs at Case Western, WUSTL, UPenn(No longer offered), and Columbia SEAS.

One thing to examine is whether Fordham or other undergrad colleges you’re looking into have strong STEM…especially Physics programs as that will serve as foundational preparation for the engineering education for your last 2 years.
