That moment when I keep refreshing my email every 10 minutes in class.
Hopefully decisions come out today
When do you guys expect Fordham will post/send our merit scholarship offers?
From what I’ve heard, some come with admission and some later in February. Not sure what all is involved. Honestly, I would check the website or email financial aid or admissions to clarify. My son is applying to several schools EA and I have to track stuff on a spreadsheet as it is all so varied.
I can’t wait…
Are we expecting an email or a portal change today? Or both?
I think the expectations are for both, but is this just based on last year or is there some other concrete evidence that today is the day?
@CAMidwestMom yes I think so. Last year they received their decisions on the Monday after they got the notification email (the email we got on last Wednesday or Thursday).
OK, well, I hope this is true. Honestly, my son has applied to ten schools and this is the one that has caused me the most anxiety (which is slightly irrelevant as I am the parent lol). I just want it to be over with. I am curious though, of the people participating recently, is Fordham a top choice? I can honestly say that we were never optimistic about merit aid and figured he would have comparable options that were cheaper. However, we assumed he would at least be admitted. Sigh…
It is my top choice in all my EA schools. @CAMidwestMom should we call the office to figure out the exact date?
I’m not inclined to do it as I don’t think they will reveal the exact date. From examples on this forum at large, they usually give the standard ‘by such and such date,’ to avoid having any problems if they don’t make the planned date. Hang in there. Hopefully we won’t be waiting much longer.
Fordham is in the top 2 for my D, so we are anxious, but me more than her I think since she did get into a couple of safety schools. She applied to 7 schools and that’s it. Her attitude was that she would be really happy at any of the schools she applied to, safety or reach or whatever. So she has a good head on her shoulders while I am the nervous one! And she doesn’t know about the likely letter issue, which has probably helped her anxiety, but not mine. I personally don’t know as much about Fordham, which is why I watch CC a lot - just to get a sense of the process.
Fordham is my son’s first choice and he has applied ED. My older son attends Fordham Gabelli at Rose Hill. It’s been a wonderful experience for him. Hoping for good news today. I’m sure glad this is my youngest child because this anxiety is killing me! Lol.
@3mamagirls Same boat here. Son has no idea about likely letters. He too had great choices already and it will probably be a difficult decision, impacted by money and wherever he decides will be the best location. He’s pretty much looking at a lot of big cities. He applied to Gabelli at Rose Hill.
@CAMidwestMom - my S has Fordham in the top grouping of his applications, and he did receive a “likely letter” there on the Monday before Thanksgiving. When that landed, a couple of other schools fell off his list of places he planned to apply. I don’t know that it would be his choice if he gets in everywhere he applies and merit money is better elsewhere, but it’s definitely a place he’d be happy to attend. It’s a little more conservative than his other candidates, but nothing he couldn’t handle.
I think the letter said decisions were coming out on the 20th, so he’s expecting nothing 'til then, but I hope your son and others here get good news, and get it soon, too!
@2manybooks Did you just mention that you visited over spring break last year? So did we, so we could only take a self-guided tour. The lady at the front desk was super nice and made a good impression on my son. He loved it in spite of the dreary weather and the fact that we basically just roamed around with our map. I guess on the upside, tour guides can be so annoying, maybe it was for the best. However, I would’ve been interested in an admissions presentation. I have realized now that I don’t know all that much about Fordham. I have a family member that has worked there for quite a few years, so we’ve been around the campus a few times when visiting.
@CAMidwestMom - Yes, we did. I don’t even remember when it was - well, the week after Easter, I guess, since that’s spring break for Catholic schools! It wasn’t Fordham’s spring break, though, so maybe that made the difference? We had a guided tour and information session, although honestly half of the information session seemed targeted to make parents feel comfortable about sending their kids off to NYC. The weather was cold and rainy then, too. Our tour guide was a Gabelli (business) student, something my S is not interested in in the least, but the guide seemed to know a lot about other groups and majors.
I didn’t know much at all about Fordham, but do have friends who live in the Bronx and in Hoboken, I know that our HS sends a student or two there every few years, too. We probably will make at least one quick visit out early in the year while it’s still cold, just to see how that goes, too.
My son goes to Catholic HS too and his spring break coincided with the three Catholic schools we visited in NY. We had to take advantage of that time though. We also looked at Manhattan, but his school is a Lasallian school and he thought it was so much like his HS that he couldn’t take it!
Ha. My son is at a LaSallian HS also, which may be why he has a few Jesuit schools on his list (and some other SLACs) - but the nearby LaSallian school didn’t even get a glance.
OH- and dragging this back around to Fordham - One of the factors that did impress my S was the presence in the student center of lots of evidence of service and social justice projects that the students undertake. A couple of groups were tabling to raise awareness of various issues and do some light fundraising for their activities, and even the wall for Campus Ministry reflected a lot of local service engagements. I don’t think he’d planned to like Fordham, or even to apply to it (the tour was my idea, he just wanted to visit NYC), but the time spent on campus really changed his mind.
