I'm absolutely torn between Fordham's Gabelli School of Business and Loyola MD's Sellinger School of Business. After graduation at Fordham I will be approximately 50k in debt, and 28k at Loyola. I love both schools but would prefer Fordham. That being said, I would not be upset at Loyola AT ALL. I just see Fordham as a better opportunity being that I plan on majoring in finance. So the crux of what I'm asking is this: is Fordham worth the extra 22k?

Yes, that is a lot of money to owe and Loyola would be less expensive it’s true. The decision is yours, but consider the amazing opportunities of of going to school and working in NYC: the many, many internship opportunities that will be available to you as a Gabelli student, plus the network of Fordham alums in business is hard to beat. There are many good business schools in NYC and FU is working very hard to compete with two of the best: Columbia and NYU.

Allow me to cite something that might sway your decison. The Paris School of Mines does a study of the top CEOs at Fortune 500 companies every few years and ranks all the schools in the world (thousands) according to the number each places in these high business positions and lists the top 700. Below is a listing of all the US (and UK) schools on the current rankings. I have excluded all other international schools. Note where Fordham lands. This speaks well of the strength of a Fordham degree in the business world.

RamRay, that was extremely helpful! Thank you for your insight! That just may be what pushes me over the edge and gets me to enroll at FU.

I LOVE Fordham and but you really have to carefully consider the price difference. If your parents could pay the balance to attend each school, I’d definitely say Fordham (great school, great internship opportunities) but if you are going to owe an additional 20,000+ upon graduation by attending Fordham you have to strongly consider Loyola MD – it is another fine Jesuit school.

I LOVE Fordham too. I am a graduate of Fordham Law School. But, Loyola is an excellent Jesuit school as well. Their business school is very highly regarded. Consider your options carefully. It is better to have less debt at the end of your 4 years. You may want to attend graduate school.

Chose Fordham. I will deal with the loans later. To clarify, loyola is 26.5k/year and Fordham is 32k/year. My parents will cover 20k/year.

I have noted on other posts that cost is a big factor and Loyola is a fine school. In the end when you sit down and consider all the pros and cons of a school, you and your parents have to decide what you can and cannot do. If cost were the only factor, every HS grad would be going to State or city colleges, where one can receive a good education. Yet anyone would concede that most of the very best schools at the top are private, so these school get more than their share of applicants because they offer something more for their cost. You can’t go wrong with either school, and your success in life is what YOU do to make it a success.

Do I think Fordham worth $22k more? yes I do, but this is your choice and only you and your parents can decide if it’s worth the extra $22K. Some here argue it isn’t, others would argue it is. Do I think Fordham has some amazing opportunites that raise it a notch above many schools? Again yes, but it has to be your decision if it is worth it.

Good luck on whatever you chose!

I don’t know if this means anything, but one more factor to toss in the decision mix:
Businessweeks’ rankings of undergraduate B schools had Sallinger at 45th and Gabelli at 49th in 2012. For 2013 Sallinger was 53rd and Gabelli 40th.

Again, you can’t go wrong with either as both are good.

They are both great schools. I would ask do you know where you want to live after graduation? If NYC, Fordham will help you get internships which will lead to jobs in NYC.
