Fordham or Holy Cross?

My daughter is deciding between Fordham RH and Holy Cross. She is interested in communications/public relations, possibly a business minor. HC does not have that major but I understand you can create your own. How is Fordham’s communications program compared to Marist and Loyola Maryland (strong communications programs we were also considering)?

Cost is pretty much the same for both schools with the scholarships she got. Any advice?

@CTMomma I think you need to choose based on fit. Which did the student prefer?

She loves both HC and Fordham.

@CTMomma I sent you a pm

My vote (just a stranger on the internet…) would be Fordham RH.
The reason is that their established PR/Communication major is set up in to provide realistic, job-oriented opportunities, with access to internships that will assist her during her first job search. So much of the PR/Communication industry is about who you know, so being closer to active business centers such as NYC will ultimately serve her well.

Although HC is a great school, if she needs to craft her own major without the support or advising of someone with
that expertise, how will she know what is relevant? Remember, we don’t know what we don’t know.

All things being equal as far as her interest in both schools, go for the one where the academics closely mirror her current interests.

I second @hop’s vote for Fordham. The internship opportunities available for students are amazing. It’s easy to intern 2 or 3 days a week starting sophomore or junior year. 20 minute train ride on MetroNorth to Grand Central. There are also lots of great guest speakers, clubs that take trips into city offices, etc. Plus as a communication major she could also volunteer at WFUV radio station on campus.

I’m going to go ahead and give third vote to Fordham. In that field, the connections you make and experience you gain during high school are perhaps the most important factor in post graduate employment. There are very few places that are better in that regard then NYC.

Thank you all.

Did u get a chance to go to accepted students day at both schools?

If all things are equal. I think life in a NYC borough is more interesting than Worcester.
