I like both schools but I am not sure which is "superior" in the areas I will be attending for. I want to major in biochem and go to med school after.. I know both schools have really good acceptance rates, but which one has better research opportunities, pre med advising, hospital affiliations for shadowing ,volunteering and research. I heard Fordham has ties with the med schools of nyc... is this true? Which has better sciences all together? Which is better for biochem? Which name goes farther(prestige)

Thanks and have a great Christmas! -Anthony

Prestige doesn’t mean anything if it’s the wrong school for you. And prestige can be local, national, international, departmental, faculty, sports etc related.

Neither is stunningly famous, neither is a ‘where?!’. A GPA of 3.8 from one will always trump a 2.9 from the other.

Moving on, you can find this other information out by looking on their respective websites. Take ownership of your decisions. Focus on getting the grades to get to get admission to college before getting too worked up about med school. A science major isn’t even required to go to med school. Take the time to do more research on the profession and med school entry. There’s no rush. Enjoy the possibilities.

Indeed, look more into the reality of practising medicine. There are lots and lots of options. But a career in medicine needs to be the end goal, not med school itself or it’ll all end messily…

Richmond has a designated biochemistry/molecular biology program, while Fordham subsumes biochemistry into its chemistry department. Look at the course offerings in the online catalogs to see which school offers more courses.

You don’t need to go to a strong “science” school to become a doctor, just one with adequate program offerings and a history of getting people into med school. Either Fordham or Richmond would meet your needs. Both schools are respectable. I would choose on the basis of fit, feel and finances more than anything else (they are very different environments). Go to the school where you will be happy even if you end up changing your mind about med school.

Have you been admitted to both?
If so, what’s the financial aid package?
If not, apply to both, then decide based on fit and finances, but don’t worry about it yet.
