Just starting this process for junior thespian. Does anyone know how Fordham weights audition vs academics? As you all know being involved in theatre is very time consuming. My son has been able to juggle varsity swim and an active theatre schedule since freshman year. However his grades have suffered because of it. He currently has a 3.0 unweighted GPA from an uber competitive high school that is ranked #2 in the state. He has taken a mix of AP, Dual Credit, Honors, and On Level classes. He recently scored 1540 on his SAT. He wants to concentrate on schools that don’t weigh academics as highly as the audition. I think he needs to focus more on his school work to get his grades up this year, but he would much rather be rehearsing and prepping for a show. Help!! He is considering Fordham, NCSA, and DePaul.
I believe that Fordham wait raise at least equally with audition - so you need to meet their general academic parameters (3.6 is average gpa for admitted student). That is opposed to a school like Carnegie mellon, which really only takes the audition into consideration, and does not expect drama students to meet the same academic parameters as say a computer science major
CCPA at Roosevelt is all about the audition, if you’re looking at schools that focus on audition heavy requirements
I would think his SAT score would make up for a lot!
I have attended Fordham tours and events three times, including auditions on Saturday. We were told that to be admitted to the theatre program you must be accepted by the university through their regular process AND by the theatre department. You will not be accepted to theatre if you cannot be admitted to the university. This came straight from the admissions officer on Saturday.
By the way, I should have mentioned that he loves Fordham. Even as acceptances and audition callbacks roll in from other wonderful schools, he just wants to hear from Fordham. It is going to be a long wait for him, I am afraid since they don’t send decisions out until February.
