Fordham U: Any chance for a double leg?

Hi, My daughter is a double legacy potential applicant for Fordham College, with low SAT and GPA just below 3.0. College Search says ""0% chance" of getting in-is it a waste of time for her to apply-Admissions is unwilling to say anything. What are they most concerned about-SAT or GPA? When I attended, it was not as difficult to be accepted. BTW, besides me, her aunt is a graduate, her grandfather, three great uncles and I am a graduate of Fordham Law School. Just don't want to get her hopes up for nothing. Also, as a junior, what can she do to improve her chances?? thanks for any help :-)

I’m not big on chancing, but I do think she has to improve the SAT/GPA. Being a legacy doesn’t hurt, but I think you still have to statistically be in the ballpark for the school. My S did not apply to my college because he was not close to their admissions statistics in terms of SAT/GPA. I know legacy kids (including one where both parents went a sibling was there) who did not get in to Fordham. The school has become much more competitive. She should keep working to improve her stats, be involved in activities etc. and hope for the best. Good luck.

Shoot for a high SAT/ACT and make sure the GPA is AT LEAST a 3.0.

The odds are slim but if she can get a 2200+ and a 3.0+ she will be much better off than if she had a 1800 or 1900.</p>

Fordham is a school that will take chances with a low gpa/ high sat or act er. Granted, a 3.0 is still quite low and the odds are slim, but if she can get the high SAT or ACT then she will be in a lot better shape.

Prep that SAT.

Without declaring ED, IMO, 1- you get gpa up, even if SR yr fall semester, 2- get very good SAT/ACT and 3- most importantly establish a repore with the admissions office, go on tour, stay in touch with at least 1 admissions counselor.

I would have her take the ACT & see if she does better with it than the SAT. Also, as others have said, improve the SAT score & the GPA. Legacy helps but it won’t get a student in if the school thinks she can’t do the work once there. Fordham has been getting tougher.

Maybe you & I are related! —we have scadillion Fordham grads in the family including a guy in the first class & one of their presidents. I bet every Irish family in NY has a load of Fordham grads in the ol’ tree. ; – )
