Does Legacy Matter?

Hi, I’m starting to apply to colleges this year. I have a 4.28 weighted (4 unweighted) junior year GPA and a rough cumulative unweighted of 3.86. I am a third generation legacy at Fordham, but my SAT is 1220 (I am retaking it but not sure what my score will be) and I was wondering if this helps tip the scale for me to get in. Both generations before me also attended the law school. I have many extracurricular activities as well. Please share your thoughts.

It depends on the school. Legacy does matter at Fordham. Best of luck and . . . Go Rams!

For any school, google its Common Data Set, look at section C7 “Alumni/ae relation” to see how much it counts.

It says “considered…” could it possibly get me in even if my SAT is lower than their average (1290-1420)?

I believe that if ALL your other academic and extracurricular areas are strong, a small flaw with standardized testing scores will not kill you, and I am sure your legacy will help compensate for that. Furthermore, if the average is 1290-1420, that means there are definitely numerous kids who got accepted to Fordham with scores below 1290. Best of luck!
