Fordham U vs U of San Diego

I was accepted to both Fordham, and USD. I am having a hard time deciding between them.

I know Fordham is overall ranked better. But there business schools are closely ranked together (Im going for accounting).

Would passing up Fordham be a mistake? And how well know is Fordham outside the east coast? If I wanted to move to San Diego after college, would it be hard to get a job?

Any information would be helpful!

I’ve known many Fordham graduates and it’s a solid program overall, but…
it is unlikely that many people in Greater San Diego know anything about Fordham, which just means that you would have to hustle a bit more than your local competition when the time comes to hunt for a job in Southern California.

Never saw these two schools as cross admits.

It’s snowing at Fordham today. San Diego is near 70 and sunny, like it is every day.

If your intent is to move to San Diego after college, why wouldn’t you want to attend USD? Your future employers will be recruiting there. You won’t find any SoCal firms recruiting at Fordham. You would be on your own to find a job, backed by a degree from an unfamiliar school, competing mostly against grads from CA colleges. Unless cost is an issue, USD is the obvious choice for you.

I was stationed in SD while in the Navy. So I know how amazing it is there. I grew up in NJ, where I am now. Since I was gone for 6 years, its been nice being close to my family, and they want me to chose Fordham.

I am also interested in attending college in NYC since it would be something new to experience. But I know its somewhere I would not want to live the rest of my life.

So its been tough choosing. Thanks for all the advice.

will it be easier to find a place in USD’s Yellow Ribbon Program than Fordham’s?

both schools are very military friendly, so they both cover 100% of the cost.

but it looks like Fordham’s YBP tops out at 365-400 u/g vets (per year?):

USD looks like it doesn’t have any limits but is potentially less generous:

You might want to give them a call and check the accuracy of these tables.

p.s., thank you for your service to our country.

I saw that Fordham’s tuition was above the limit, so I did contacted them. Fordham told me they extended their benefits with the yellow ribbon program, to cover all the tuition.

And thank you.

My S graduated from Fordham with an accounting major and had a great experience there. There are students from CA at Fordham and the large accounting forms will interview on campus for jobs all over the country. But if you want to settle in CA, then USD would be a fine choice as well assuming the big accounting firms also interview there. And just so you are prepared you now need 150 credits to become a CPA so many people go on for a one year masters degree to meet that requirement so you need to factor those costs in as well.

happy1, are there any 4 year programs, strong in accounting, that promise a free 5th year the way URochester and some others do? I don’t think URochester has an accounting major.

I don’t know schools with that offer but I’d guess it would be a fifth year to finish up your undergrad work and not to get 30 credits above a bachelors degree or to get a MS degree (and I don’t think URochester has an undergraduate business school but I’m not sure).

No, the free 5th year is toward a Master’s degree, typically for advanced undergrads who can get their Master’s in a year. Clark University has this too.
