I got accepted into both. I would like to attend law school. I think Lafayette has better academics, but Fordham has the bigger name. Where do you think I should attend?

If you are going to Law school, that should be your name school anyway.

Go to the school you want to go to, not the one you think people want you to.

How does Fordham have the bigger name? What does the bigger name even mean? More people have heard of Penn St. than Dartmouth or Williams, but that doesn't mean that you should go there because of it.

i just mean that Fordham would have more name recognition when it came to law school placement, but I do not even know if that is true, which is why I made the original post.

yea Fordham is the place!

Here's the truth: "name recognition" isn't going to get you into law school. (And, frankly, no law school is going to look at Lafayette and say 'community college' - it has a VERY solid academic reputation with both professional and graduate programs).

What WILL get you into law school is attending an undergraduate program where you will be challenged academically, taught how to write and think analytically, give you the best shot at doing well on the LSAT, and have professors who will know you well enough in order to write convincing recommendations. While I think Fordham is a good solid school, in terms of academics, I'd personally have to give the edge to Lafayette, and therefore that would be my choice if I was planning to go on to any graduate program. However, if you prefer the location and social scene at Fordham, you'll be fine there as well.

But I would not make the choice just on some falsely perceived "name recognition" with law schools. I'd make the choice based on where I felt I would get the best education and feel most comfortable, because, that is where you will grow and succeed best, and ultimately THAT will give you the best chance of going on to law school and doing well in law school. (If indeed you even end up wanting to go to law school -plans do change.)

So, if Fordham is calling you, you'll be fine. But if Lafayette is calling you as the best fit, don't let some false worry about "name recognition" keep you from attending.

Lafayette is the better choice. Your overall experience will be better. (I once lived in the Bronx.)

thanks for the input, keep it coming!
