I know AP Spanish with a grade of 3,4,or 5 will give you elective credit but you still have to place out of the USC test or take 3 semesters of a language. My question is: Since they only require 3 semesters, how hard is it to place out of the foreign language requirement?
I know S will have to study over the summer since he took AP Sp during junior year. Is it hard to place out?

Also, looks like it was a waste of time taking some of the AP classes. They give elective credit for most but his major only has two courses of elective credit.

It really depends on his level...I took 4 years of Spanish in high school, as did my friend. I didn't pass; she did. I thought it was a bit difficult, but that's because I try to forget everything right after finals. ;)

After taking three years of Spanish in High School, with no AP, I passed to the third level and only had to take one semester of spanish. I think that if I had actually studied for the test, I would have passed out. Still, it was a fun class, so I didn't mind taking it.

Also, simply having the credits that AP classes give you can be a huge help in registering after your first semester. Registration times are determined by the number of credits you have, and you get to register earlier with more, thus more classes are open.

The actual grades that you got in a language class make no difference, as USC is unable to really determine what that means. The only thing that matters for testing out of a language is how you do on the test. I recommend reviewing a bit before the test. I know that I could probably have passed out of the requirement if I had studied the verb forms before. Good luck!
