Hi

I am going to be a senior and i am intereseted in Wesleyan University.

However, I noticed that they recommend FOUR years of foreign language classes.

I took three years, but I did not put any language class for this year, because i

needed to make up my lacking ap classes.

Is there anyone who did not take four years of foreign languages but got in?

I’ll be a frosh this fall, and I only took three years of foreign language in high school. However, three years is all that my school offered, and the three years I took were my sophomore, junior and senior years–not freshman, sophomore and junior years.

In this case, I think it might be a good idea to trade an AP class for a fourth year of foreign language, since your three years otherwise won’t include senior year. That’s just my opinion, of course. There are many, many more factors in the admission process.

hey i am an incoming freshman and i only took 2 years of a language in high school (fresh/soph), although they were levels 2 & 3. honestly, don’t let that deter you from applying. i had other things that i put as a priority before my language classes and since there only so many classes in a day, I had to cut the class after sophomore year.

I only took three years - levels 1 2 and 3. My classes focused around math and science though. I also only took 4 AP’s throughout my high school career, three of which were during senior year. Don’t worry about it.

I’m freaking out about this too. Although English is my third language and in addition to three years of French my freshman, sophomore and junior year I have taken two years of Chinese(8th and 10th grade) and two years of Latin and I can read and write in Arabic although I can’t speak it fluently at all I still feel like I should take the fourth year of French. The only thing is, in order to take it I have to give up my lunch period and I won’t have any study halls during the day and its my senior year. But whatever, I guess if I get into Wesleyan its worth it.

On a related note, I’ve taken Spanish 2, 3, 4 in 9-11 grade and will be in AP Spanish this year. Do you think that being in AP Spanish mean I’m fluent enough to say I’m proficient in Spanish as a second language? Would that be something that could be looked into if I put it on the application?

Jimbonium, ARE you fluent in Spanish?

If you went to a Spanish-speaking country, could you converse easily, discuss anything that you wished and interact without any difficulty?

If the answer to this question is no, then you are not fluent.

Well, I have had conversations in Spanish with people who can’t speak any English, so I suppose so, albeit I’ve gotten a bit rusty over the Summer. I suppose it’s something I can verify with a teacher
