Foreign Language Placement

I took AP Spanish Language my junior year and earned a C so I did not take AP Spanish Literature my senior year. Based on my Spanish SAT II scores, I would place into Spanish 204 at UNC. However, based on my AP Spanish Language score of 4, I should receive credit for Spanish 203 & 204. Does Spanish 204 = level 4 thus fulfilling the foreign language requirement? Also, will I still be required to take the placement exam at CTOPS even though I have SAT II and AP scores? If so, does it matter what I score on it? I'm worried since it's been a year since I've had a Spanish class.

If you got a 4 on the AP lang exam, you’ll place out of foreign language at Carolina.

They’ll probably still make you take the placement test regardless, though, but it won’t actually count for anything (that’s what happened to me, at least).

Will they make me take the placement test if I have transfer credit for level 4?

I have the same question. Son has 6 transfer credits for a local university. Does he still need to take the placement exam?

Thanks.

After doing a bit of research, it looks like if you transfer in level 3 for a degree that only requires level 3, you don’t have to take level 4 but you do if you place into level 4 on the placement test… great, that means I didn’t even need level 4.
