Foreign Language PreReq

How strict is Princeton on the recommended four years of foreign language? I took Spanish up through PreAP 3, but decided not to do AP 4, which I would have taken in my junior year. Didn't know I wanted to go to Princeton at the time but whatever now. My question is, will that kill me? It's not like I took nothing, my junior year had AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP English 3, AP Computer Science A, AP US History, PreAP Precal, and Baseball. So I mean its not like I could have taken it and just was lazy, my schedule was packed full of things that were more important for me (on premed track) rather than one extra year of spanish. I couldn't take it this year either, my schedule is full full full.

So it won't DQ me will it?

It won't disqualify you. It is "suggested" and not required.

yeah i have the same question too...

does it really hurt you?

I took italian for three years and there was NO WAY it would fit into my schedule senior year....I tried talking to guidance...got the italian teacher to talk to guidance....it even got to the superintendent...but there was no way....

My son is a sophmore at Princeton. He took Spanish 1 in 8th grade (which didn't go on his HS transcript) and Spanish 2 and 3 honors in HS. He did not like the Spanish teachers at all in HS, so decided not to take another year. Instead, his junior year consisted of 5 AP courses and 2 honors classes. He is taking Spanish now at Princeton (since could not waive out via an AP exam, etc.), and loves the teacher. It is a very small class of 5 students which makes it even better.

My recommendation would be to take courses you have an interest in and do the best that you can.

I'm pretty sure you will be fine. Remember it is recommended, but they do not require it. =]
