<p>You will likely need to take a placement test if you transfer credits towards a foreign language. As for the credits themselves, you just complete the process like normal transfer credits and the transfer credit analyzer person will determine what classes are equivalent. This is usually a dice roll – I took Spanish 101 and 102 at a community college a year apart. The first one got me 3 credits at the 000 level (ie. not 101 equivalent) and the second one got me 102 level credit (ie. 102 equivalent). If you are taking Spanish they usually try to place you up because there is such a shortage of available spots in the classes.</p>

<p>BigShot – I strongly suggest you make an appointment with your association dean to discuss this question. He or she can direct you to someone in the department for your FL of choice, if appropriate. </p>
<p>If you have not already taken a FL placement test for UVa in the language you are now considering, I think that at a minimum you will need to pass the UVa placement test in the language to fulfill some or all of your core competency requirement for FL at UVa. I don’t think you will receive credit hours for CC classes in FL, as it is a “core competency.”</p>
