Foreign Language Requirement...taking a test instead of taking classes?

i've heard that you can take a test to complete the igetc foreign language req instead of using HS foreign language or CC foreign language classes. i'm korean and speak and understand some korean, but i am basically illiterate when it comes to reading and writing korean.

would it be a good idea to brush up on my Korean for a year and a half (I plan on transferring Fall 2012) and complete the foreign language requirement by taking the test (i believe some kind of written test)? would the level of Korean i need to know be too advanced for me to learn by myself?

i want to do this because i already have some grounding in Korean and it seems like a way better idea than taking two 5-unit classes which would increase my workload a lot. is it a bad idea?

Do it. My french is shaky at best and I got a semester’s credit for french 1 by passing a basic 45 min test that cost 104. Completely worth saving the ‘wasted’ time.

@mkcman- where did you take the test?

@mkcman

What test? SAT II? AP something? Also did you take the second test?

Sorry…neglected this thread…I took it at CC. They offer it, you usually have to email the professor and do some paperwork.
