Foreign Language Requirment?

Is there a way to get out of foreign language? I'm a psychology major and apparently I have to take 4 semesters of a language. My problem is, I enrolled in Italian, saw the syllabus, and decided it was a mistake since I need to get my GPA up and the class is way too fast. I want to switch to spanish, but I'm not sure if I can take 101. I took the placement test 3 times and got a 0. Even though I took spanish 1 and 2 in high school, I wasn't taught anything except verbs, nouns, pronunciation, and a few phrases (basically no more than anyone who has watched Dora would know). What should I do? I go to a regional campus and plan on transferring to the Oxford campus next year so I'd like to have a better GPA. Any suggestions? My sister in law said they can't make me take the higher level class, but I feel like they might. Also, if I don't take the language this semester, I'm going to be very low on credits and most classes are full. Suggestions for that would also be helpful.

Spanish was one of the best UG classes that my D. had at Miami. It is foolish to get out of it.
D. had only one semester and could speak after - we were stunned when she went with us to Mexico. She placed into 3 year. It was a very challenging and time consuming class but very rewarding. I would advise all at Miami to take advantage and get some foreign language. Not sure about Italian, Spanish has opened more opportunities for my D. at Med. School. What did you take in HS? Oe thing I know, you cannot register for classes before you take a foreign language (and math) placement class.

Well, 101 is basic Spanish; I don’t see how you could go lower than that. (IIRC, Miami doesn’t have remedial languages.) Or is this that you’re concerned they’d make you go higher than 101? They wouldn’t; you can register for whatever you want if you meet the prerequisites, which 101 has none of.

This is all so foreign (no pun intended) to me, I must admit; I actually like languages. I just finished a year of Arabic and I’m now going back to Japanese, which I’d taken throughout high school.
