Hello everyone!

I
m rather new in this forum so this might not be the right sub-forum for this thread , but I couldn
t find a better one so here goes my question:

If I can take a language test (such as D.E.L.E for spanish) should I go for it even though the results will be released after the application deadline(The test day is 14 nov. , results will come on early January and I`m applying for regular action)?
Would it look like a plus on my application if I take it or it won`t matter?

Lots of thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris! I think it would definitely help to have one of these; such examinations, especially the ones at higher levels, are comparable to language AP tests or to even higher degrees of proficiency. I personally have the DALF C2 certificate for French, an HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi - Chinese proficiency test) Level 9, and the DELE Intermedio under my belt, which are all extremely hard to get, even for native speakers. For example, I remember that the written portion of my DALF exam had me read 3 articles about stem cell research, each over 3,000 words long, and then write a 1,000 word essay using a persuasive tone, taking a stand on the issue… all within the time frame of 3 hours. Keep in mind that everything was in French, and for someone who’s Chinese by birth, I’m quite proud of this accomplishment.

Be sure to explain the significance of these tests though - I have a feeling not all adcoms are going to be familiar with them.
