I know I want to go to law school and, with a little more LSAT practice, I know I can consistantly get into the mid 170s. I have a solid GPA, 3.91, from a top 10 school, but I am currently doing a one-year masters program at the London School of Economics. The grading system here is peculiar and graduates can receive either a "fail," "pass," "merit," or "distinction" for their degrees, based on how they do on their final exams for each course. I want to shoot for HYS, but my question is, If I don't receive the highest award here (distinction) will that negatively impact my application?

nope, it won't.

is that because law schools don't care much about master's grades, or because the difference isn't that big, or simply because they won't understand the difference and won't bother to look it up? Thanks.

It's because law schools don't care about master's grades one way or the other.

wow, well that's comforting to know I guess, but why is that? It seems kind of silly, right?
