someone mentioned foreign MBA programs (usually 1 year) are pretty good.... but are they highly regarded in the states? Does anyone know about how Grenoble, France's University of Grenoble-3 (stendhal) school is in regards to business? What overseas business programs are good?

Obviously foreign MBA programs are more recognized in the countries that they are taught.

However, a number of foreign MBA programs, especially European ones, are highly regarded in the US. They would include places like INSEAD, IMD, Impresa (IESE), and several others.

As far as recognition in the States, first of all, I doubt that that matters. If you graduate from a top-tier foreign program, you should be worrying about impressing multinational companies, which is certainly the case. More than 10% of the graduating class of INSEAD joins McKinsey. I recall reading a story that IESE graduates received annual average compensation packages north of 140k, which is higher than that of any other B-school, including American schools.

It is you graduate from a top foreign MBA program, your best job prospects may not be in the US, but rather in a foreign nation. But what's so bad about that? The US isn't the only place that has good jobs, you know.

Further to Sakky's excellent post, if you are "gunshy" about making a full jump overseas, a good compromise would be to target some top tier US programs with exchanges with other top tier non-US b-schools:

Wharton / INSEAD (full MBA exchange)

MIT / IMD (executive MBA only)

Columbia / LBS (executive MBA only)

Furthermore, all of the top tier global consulting and i-banking firms recruit extensively from the top tier non-US b-schools (e.g. INSEAD / IMD / LBS)

Actually, the MIT/IMD partnership does not offer an executive MBA, but rather only offers non-degree granting executive education courses.

MIT's executive MBA program is the Sloan Fellows program that currently has no formal relationship with IMD.

I would also point to the international opportunities available through Chicago.
