Chance me for HYPMS ^ Ivies! Want to pursue engineering or core science... Thanks! :)

reply... am i in...???

accepted/rejected/waitlisted/reach? for HYPMS, Ivies... n other top schools...

That's basically as good of a profile as anyone could hope for. Obviously it's going to be 10x harder for you since you're an International, but it still looks good for you.

lol he needs to reassert his ego.

that is a kickass resume. If you get rejected for these schools then the competition is even more rediculous than i thought.

You have some really good activities- get rid of the litter and you have a strong shot at HYPS.

However, ivy admits are quite arbitrary so there is NEVER a "am I in?" guarantee no matter how wonderful your stats are. Also, as an international, the competition pool is quite different and much more fierce- while your academic stats are superb and nearly flawless, don't count on that to leverage you because chances are, some Korean kid has the same/better stats. Your activities are really going to do you in or out and from my perspective, they look really good.

Good luck!

Another Singaporean!

What pre-tertiary institution / junior college are you attending? Did you attend a Singaporean secondary school?

You mean after the seven different types of school classifications the MOE gives out, right? hahahaha

Also, I don't know why you want to be chanced at all the Ivies -- some are not going to suit you. Meanwhile there are other schools of comparable rigour out there.

You have an awesome resume, but please think of other schools, even if your parents are super-rich enough not to apply for financial aid.

Surely you aren't applying for the prestige?

Harvard Arvard Rvard Vard Ard Rd D
Stanford Tanford Anford Nford Ford Ord Rd D

llpitch, tjan91, Scared4College: Thanks a lot! Any suggestions how to like score off better for the "arbitrary" admission procedure?

eating food: I din't exactly get it... but I guess you're just bored... or is it a joke i din't really get! lol! :P

galoisien: ermm... actually, i'm a scholar; came just for JC (Am from Temasek JC (: ); was from the rank 1 school in India, DPS RK Puram, before I came here for the scholarship! Haha... I am applying to other schools as well, but well, if my app works well for Ivies, I guess I can pocket the-not-so-uber-but-still-great schools automatically, right? like... it's easier to get in, ainnit?

Others: accepted/rejected/waitlisted/reach? whaddya guys think? reply! please! pretty please!!! :)

Not quite -- international applications at other schools are quite disadvantaged too. Cast your net wide. :)

Actually what I gave you was the formula to unlock great bounties of decadant splendor

Use if wisely... or suffer the consequences

Your reply in of itself is a paradox. You can certainly seek to maintain your grades/test scores and enhance your activities but nothing can ward off the arbitrary factor as seen in top college admissions. Things like race, location, quota for student diversity, etc. are going to factor into your decision. The fact that you are Indian( despite being in Singapore) and an international weighs heavily against you. Despite that, you really do have some amazing achievements and if you can properly showcase it, then you certainly have a good shot. I would suggest applying to more schools to ward off the chance of complete rejection.

Well, if he were an Indian Singaporean holding SG citizenship or PR status, I would say otherwise, because I have known rather modest Singaporeans who I thought would never get into an Ivy (in a good way -- as in, we were childhood friends born without privilege who thought such schools were out of our reach -- I never thought I would be in my current position either) who got into highly selective institutions as an international student. They were certainly less award-studded than the OP.

ermm... actually, i'm an indian citizen... juz a student here in singapore... but... why exactly will being indian go against me...? too many indians applying, huh...? and will being an A-level taking, singapore school grad student ermm... make my chances better than indian directs (people studying in india, i mean...)... and about how much will getting a PR help...? (might consider) and yeah... lastly... could ya guys please chance me seperately for different univs and suggest some others for the courses i intend to take! thanks in advance... looking forward to prompt replies! thanks! :)

can u please list all the universities you are applying to? because evaluating for HYPSM is just going to be a REACH...random things happen, so we cant actually honestly give you a yes/no...
but obviously, u are a student of the 'accepted' calibre. Even then...it would just be easier.
But yeah, i would say REACH for HYPSM...especially since i know a lot of random decisions are made. People better than me have been rejected from these unis, whilst those not so impressive have sometimes been accepted.
u can just try ur best, and hope for the best.
For some reason, i can see you making Princeton and Yale, but not Stanford and MIT - its just my reflection from your application. As for harvard, i wouldnt have a clue mate. Sorry

Massachusetts Institute of Technology
University of California, Berkeley
Stanford University
California Institute of Technology
Brown University
Carnegie Mellon University
Georgia Institute of Technology
Princeton University
Harvard University
University of California, Los Angeles
University of Illinois
Cornell University
Purdue University
Yale University
University of Chicago
Duke University
University of Pennsylvania
Columbia University

Still not decided... but will probably surely apply to the ones mentioned above! Can ya guys chance me for them... thanks! :)

Thanks for the response... keep 'em coming! :)

Here you go. This is just my opinion, and knowing me, i m probably gonna be wrong.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology - reject
University of California, Berkeley - Reach
Stanford University - reject
California Institute of Technology - reach
Brown University - wouldnt know but i guess a reach
Carnegie Mellon University - match
Georgia Institute of Technology - wouldnt know
Princeton University - Reach
Harvard University - Reach
University of California, Los Angeles wouldnt know
University of Illinois - wouldnt know
Cornell University - Reach
Purdue University wouldnt know
Yale University - Reach
University of Chicago - wouldnt know
Duke University - wouldnt know
University of Pennsylvania - reach
Columbia University - reach

The 'wouldnt know's are universities i did not research or apply to, hence giving you an evaluation would be an educated guess. The Reach universities are only so because all Ivy leagues are reaches. But of the ones that i marked 'reach', i think you should make Berkeley, Caltech, Cornell and Princeton (but this is gonna be hard).

You might have a strong chance at Chicago. If you weren't an international I'd say you'd almost be a match.

But if you apply, do think of why you would want to be there. :) [Both for the app's essays, and for your future.]

Reject at MIT and in at Harvard Sid? lol...
