any takers? i saw someone named calidan on here earlier? (cool people of forum, please dont banish me)

I think I have the book downstairs, but never got around to it

omg...I loved Dune! (I don't really like Brian Herbert's stuff too much though)

yeah friends, dune kicks ace, well dune was the easiest book for me to comprehend, but the new books by herberts son and this dude named anderson are relaly readable and enjoyable!

are they? I tried Chapterhouse Dune and didnt like it all that much. Dune and Children of Dune were very readable though :)

yeah the new ones (dune:house harko..., dune: house atrei..., and dune: house corrin..." are all easy reads and exciting, sucharita, are you appyling to penn? or are you already threre?

applying...what about you? Essays going VERY badly. jan deadline coming up too quickly for my taste...

im in man and it feels good... can i be of assistance

wow that must feel great...

Wait... I'm so confused! I'm calidan, but I don't know what this is. Someone please explain. What's DUNE?

Dune is this incredible science fiction novel by a guy called Frank Herbert...one of my all time sci-fi favorites...

yeah calidan, calidan is one of the planets on dune, how did you come up with your name anyways if you have never read the book?

OMG, that's totally a weird coincidence. I used the state I'm from (California) and my name (Daniel).
California -> Cali, Daniel -> Dan
Cali+Dan = Calidan

haha thats neat

cool!! so mengcheng what do you plan to major in?

um i think id like to do something in govt. im thinking int'l studs.(everyone does poly sci). but obviously alot can change until i declare my major in two years. yeah, ive been disowned by my family since im not a math prodigy like all the other asians.... jk... but hows your app going sucharita

pretty good, I've nearly finished it except for the most important moment in History where I'm completely stuck...and I'm still looking for a nice pic to send...should finish the whole thing by today :)

I sent a pick of my nose HAHAH FUN PUNS!

sucharita, i hear bits and pieces of rumors(?) that like in inda, all the smartest boys apply to the tech. schools in your country and if they dont get in, they use the u.s.'s best tech schools like mit and caltech as safeties. is this true. care to elaborate?

well...the best tech schools in india are the Indian institutes of technology. 500,000 people apply each year and 5000 finally get admitted...1% acceptance rate so only prodigies make it. Another good place is BITS where you need a minimum gpa of 96-97 on a 100 point scale to make the grade. So when you compare that with the acceptance rates in MIT and Caltech...yeah the REALLY smart people could just about use them as match schools (calling them safeties would be going a bit too far specially since they aren't need blind for intls and most Indians need quite a bit of aid), provided of course that they had good ecs recs and essays.
