DD will live in a suite-style housing with a kitchen next term. Her suite mates are purchasing meal plans so DD will be cooking for one. I want to buy her a cookbook that works well for a novice cook with limited ingredients and cooking tools. She does not have a car to get to the grocery store so she will have to manage her menu planning so that she can consume the perishable food in a timely manner. Ideally the book will include slow cooker recipes and shopping lists.
I don’t have a cookbook suggestion, but nothing beats the internet. That’s where i get all of my recipes now. There are lots of different sites with websites, but I get a lot from pinterest and it’s easy to keep track of them all by pinning them to the same board. Googling slow cooker recipes or recipes for college students or suggestions to cook for one will probably bring up a lot. Alternatively, you could probably also search for a cookbook like that.
Something else you might want to do is pull together some recipes you always make, if she doesn’t already know how to make one. I’m calling my mom all the time for the recipe for this or the recipe for that. Even if you think they are too complicated for her, you never know when the mood will strike or whe. She’ll be cooking with others.
Good and Cheap. It’s free online and has pretty great recipes. Originally written for those on food stamps. My mom got me the Everything College Cookbook when she found out I was only eating pasta with vegetables and spicy sauce.
I wouldn’t buy any book but probably suggesting to look at the Pioneer Woman blog. She has picture of each step, much easier for novice.
