Forgot to Report W's on Application

I forgot to report the W's I received on my transcripts. I did have on D, but retook the class for a higher grade (and apparently my B replaces the D according to my college counselor). My college counselor told me that UC's look at my W as benign, therefore, she told me I didn't have to report it. I did email admissions and I already sent in my transcripts, but I was wondering if this was going to affect my admission? None of the W's are for my pre-req, just classes I tried to take, but couldn't handle it.

They are pretty strict on reporting exactly what you have done. You should have put them in your app! However, since they are for non prereq classes, you might be fine. Give them a call on monday!

i’m sure you’ll have to report everything since they will see all the w’s and the d’s along with all your other grades when you have to send in your transcript. Apparently withholding information can let them rescind you :[ so i would update it quickly also!

edit: ohhh you sent it in already then, it should be fine i hope, since its not pre reqs or anything  best of luck!

ugh, i hate the college counselors at my campus. they really have no idea what they are talking about… ugh!

You should be fine; I wouldn’t worry about it. I doubt they’ll have your admissions rescind since you contacted them before they contacted you.

wowwwwwww I think this one really wins at the stupid college counselor contest.

^ I waited a whole hour for a counseling appointment. And when i asked him a question… he told me he didn’t know but he’ll find out. My jaw dropped when he went on collegeconfidential.

^ HAHAHAHAHAHA. CC > couselors. For real.

it’s scary now. i hope it doesn’t affect my decision, because i was really set on LA. if not, I guess i’ll be at UCI, since they are a lot less strict about this stuff.

ps. the counselors at my college are really ■■■■■■■■. i asked if i can take a non-uc transferrable course and if it would really count towards the 60 to transfer and they said yes. but then they transferred me to the transfer center because they weren’t really sure, and the transfer center said no. college counselors = the dumbest people alive.

Agree with earlier posts…all courses taken need to be reported, whether they are transferrable or not. I had a D on Diff Eqtn, which is not needed for my major. I did an Academic Renewal instead of repeating the course for a higher grade. I followed the instruction exactly & reported it as D AR. I had a couple of W’s as well (professional development courses, 1 is preparation for CCNA) & I included those as well. Accdg. to UCB OUA, use the Additional Comments section to explain D’s, F’ & W’s, which I did.

^ I don’t see how this helps the OP since she already acknowledged that she needed to report her Ws.

Again UCLAkitty, you did the right thing by informing them ahead of time. With that being said, you should be alright.

College Confidential > college counselors.

moral of the story, go to CC before you go to a cc.

seriously, it’s their JOB, you THINK they could come on here and look things up.

If they rescind my admission to UCLA… I could appeal, right?

I’m really freaking out.

^have you tried calling UCLA, an finding out what you should do in this situation?

Honestly I think it is college wide that counselors suck. I didnt find this out until one told me I had to drop out of school (fall 09) and take one PE class this spring because I had to many credits to transfer. I about flipped my sh1t and emailed all the UC’s and had them tell me what the deal was. My counselor was ****3d that I went around him and it turns out he was a complete moron. If I got my UCLA or any UC for that matter, admissions rescinded because of an idiot counselor I would surely make an appointment calmly sit and wait for their dumb@ss and then show them what happens when a vet flips his sh1t. My god my blood is boiling just thinking about what idiots these counselors are.

I called Friday, but I got home from work really late, so I didn’t get any answer. I am waiting for Monday to call. I already sent them two emails, and will probably report it once the website becomes available. I am about to burn the whole counseling office down, it’s so damn useless. If I get my acceptance rescinded, I’m going to tie up that counselor and take her to Murphy Hall and threaten to kill her. HAHA, i know i’m so violent… but I already wasted $100 bucks on my SIR, if they decide to reject me.

Ok, I know this was FIVE YEARS ago, but I am resurrecting because there’s a lesson here. First off, I’m not 100% sure the advisor said not to put Ws in, but that aside, the application says over and over and over to post all courses and grades, including Ws, Fs, etc. So, really, a student can’t just conveniently blame an advisor for everything. Reading the instructions is part of the poccess. In this case, I’m sure it worked out OK, but the big lesson is to always read the instructions.

If I were a UC advisor and this was really a huge rescindable issue, (luckily, it isn’t) the fact that a student blamed a counselor and made no attempt to read the numerous warnings throughout the application would not bode well for the student.

@lindyk8 I got a “B” in a major course, but my professor put a wrong grade which is a “C” into systems, and it was took so long to change grade. I submitted my UC application before the grade got changed. I updated my transfer academic on 1/31/2015, and i stated this in additional comments. However, the grade of this course still appear as a “C” on my application. I’m wonder if i should email to each UC I applied to clarify.

no, you should be fine as it got in at deadline.
