Forgot to self-report AP scores on common app

I forgot to self-report AP scores on the testing section of the common app. I hastily wrote an email to Brown explaining this and asking if they could add my listed scores to my application.

Will they consider them? Does this reflect badly?

It doesn’t really matter. I don’t believe AP scores play a huge role. Your email to admissions might reflect badly though. It probably shows lack of preparation. You submit an application, then realize you forgot something, “hastily write an email.” It probably would’ve been better to ignore it or at least wait a few days.

I disagree with scinecenerd123. My suggestion is to spend the $14 to have your scores (assuming they are good) sent directly to the colleges of your choice. I read that students send official copies if they believe it will help make their application stronger. Good luck!

I attended an info session where we were told by an admissions rep not to send official AP scores when applying. When AP scores are sent to Brown, they go to the registrar’s office, not to the admissions office. AP scores in the registrar’s office will not get matched up with a file in the admissions office.

@Empireapple you only send official scores when you enroll and want to get credit/advanced placement for them.

You may indeed have read this, but then the info you read was wrong.

If the students are doing so, then the belief is in error. As mentioned, one only needs to send an official report to the college to which one is matriculating.

Same with my college, as well as many others.

The OP emailed Brown. That’s all s/he needs to do. In the grand scheme of things, AP scores will carry little to no weight in the admissions process.

This thread just made me realize that I also forgot to self-report AP scores. I did send an official report under the apparently false impression that it would be included in my admissions file. Perhaps I should self-report my scores as a file uploaded to my applicant portal? Or should I do as OP as done and send an email to admissions?

Perhaps I should just not do anything, as it has been suggested that AP scores have “little to no impact” on admissions. Please advise.

@jrdsnw I recommend emailing them- they were very understanding and told me I could update them with this information through the applicant portal.
