Foster Kid's Journey Through College Admissions

Hi, everyone! Seeing as few foster kids go to college with even fewer graduating with a degree, I wanted to make a thread for any other foster kid out there who wants to go to college! Resources that are specific to kids in care aren’t that common, so I thought it might be helpful to others in my situation if I kind of posted my journey as I went along. For a little background, I go to a magnet school, but my “home school” that I will graduate from is a small, rural one. I was placed in care the second day of my junior year, which threw my grades and ECs for a loop. I was fortunate, however, to be accepted as a QuestBridge College Prep Scholar and attended their conference at Rice University. This summer, I received a full scholarship to attend the Rising Star program at Savannah College of Art and Design, and I just recently learned that I will also be attending the Envision Law and Trial Program at Stanford University as a QuestBridge nominee. I’m super excited to share with others the process of selecting colleges to apply to, applications, financial aid, and my thoughts on the admissions process with the hopes that it will inspire and help others!

That sounds like a wonderful story, please share more!

Wow, congratulations on the awards! Kudos for doing so well when your life must have been pretty harrowing.
I’ll definitely be reading your thread.
