I wanted to start a thread for people to discuss the Foundation Fellowship, since it seemed like a lot of the people on the other threads have applied for that scholarship. One thing that I saw mentioned frequently in the other threads was the worry that being offered other scholarships puts you out of the running for the FF. Does anyone know how true that is?

You might find more information on the honor’s program thread. As far as I know, being offered other scholarships does not put you out of the race for FF.

I think what was decided in the other thread is that scholarships received so far have come from the Admissions department, and not Honors. The Honors department Awards Foundation Fellowships/Ramsey if I’m not mistaken. I could be wrong though, someone correct me if I am.

Last year the parents mentioned a possibility that scholarships were given early to those that did not make FF or Ramsey. We will see how it works out this year. We should know something soon.

In my scholarship letter, it says that FF or Ramsey will replace my scholarship if I’m chosen… I think the merit scholarships are awarded automatically based on scores, and FF/Ramsey is awarded later based on our application/recommendations/essays. Does anyone know when we find out?

As per the other thread… charter type scholarships are awarded by admissions . FF/ Ramsey are awarded by the Fellowship office. If you receive the Ramsey/ FF this replaces other UGA awarded scholarships. Unlike other scholarships, FF allows you to " stack" external awards. eg if you are a NMF and a FF you still receive the NMF scholarship.

I believe we find out if we are invited for interviews in the next month or so, and then after the interviews I’ve heard that they tell you fairly quickly if you’ve received the FF scholarship.

Dr Williams ( Honors college) called each student invited to the Fellows interviews by mid week following the interview. The offers were out before GT’s PSP, Emory scholars etc. That was a long day when we were waiting for the call. Good Luck to all waiting to hear. Please come back and share any good news.

My student just received an email saying they were accepted as a finalist. They are very excited about this fantastic opportunity. I hope those of you who were counting on this will hear good news very soon. Best of luck to you all!

Congrats mayabern! I have been checking this thread hoping someone would post soon.

I was searching my emails this morning and came across the email my d received inviting her to the Fellows weekend 2 years ago. I remember how excited we all were!

Let me know if you have any specific questions about the next steps.

Thank you so much Gibson! I would love to know how the foundation fellows interact with the Bernard Ramsey fellows, and whether the latter feel part of the same community within the honors college. I realize there are big financial differences between the two awards but I’m hoping not to get our hopes up too much, just in case! Also, i’m confused a bit about the travel opportunities for the Ramsey scholars. Do most of them use their stipend of 3 thousand dollars for one big trip or study abroad experience? Anything you would like to share would be appreciated!

I think the Fellows and the Ramseys do interact. There are some events that are specific to fellows ( retreats) but other opportunities open to both. My d is a fellow, so I am not sure if the Ramseys feel excluded. My gut is no. I am not sure if there are any Ramseys that read this forum that could add anything. My d has a circle friends that are fellows, curo scholars, honors kids etc

Students use the travel stipend in many different ways. Some undertake summer studies, others have a semester abroad. Remember the semester stipend can be combined with the travel stipend to study overseas for full semester or academic year. If you are a GA resident Hope can also be used towards tuition.

Current Fellows will reach out to your student in the next few weeks. Take advantage of this and encourage your child to ask these type of questions.

Thanks again! Also, to the kind person who sent me a private note, please know that I can’t respond since I don’t yet have “15” messages on CC (i guess that’s what is needed to be allowed that access) :)

Congratulations mayabern! Best wishes to your student in the interviews. Thanks, too, for posting that you received the email…it is helpful for those waiting to know that notification was sent out.

Congrats maybern! That is fantastic! We got the email yesterday saying we were not invited. We knew it was a LONG shot, but are thankful and appreciative to be in honors and get the charter! We will see some of you in August!

Has everyone who applied received a decision regarding FF/Ramsey already?

There are very few posts from people who have heard, and my student applied and has not heard anything yet (no emails, nothing in spam, no snail mail), so just wondering if all decisions were sent at once.

My D also a Fellow. She tells me notification went out to 61 finalists around 4:00 pm on 1/17/13. All 61 are now considered Ramsey Scholars and Fellows selected after the interview weekend in mid February.

Hi, couldbeworse. Many thanks to you and your D for sharing this information - it is very helpful.

Our experience with UGA throughout the admissions process has been great so far and the communication has always been prompt. For the FF application, we had been under the impression that we would receive official notification, even if not invited (as we expected), but perhaps we misunderstood.

Thank you, again, for your help. Best wishes to your D - being selected as a Fellow is a very impressive achievement!

marmee, I imagine it must be nerve wracking not knowing. I am wondering since at least one person was notified that they did not make it, if perhaps they reserve some students on a wait list in case some of the 60 invitees cannot attend. I hope this is the case for your D! No news is still better than bad news. I imagine it would be fine for your D to call next week if she still has not heard. Fingers crossed for her!
