Founding Clubs in Senior Year?

Before coming onto these forums I had no idea there were so many different competition-based clubs there were like Academic Declathon, Science League, and various Olympiads and Bowls since my school just doesn't have these clubs. I learned of these clubs late in my junior year, and it was too late to start a club to compete then.

I really wanted to start a few of these clubs at my school because I feel that we would do pretty well seeing as we have quite a few number of very smart students. However, most of the clubs have competitions after college apps are sent out, like in January-March or so. I was wondering if starting these clubs would boost my application in any way? Would simply starting and organizing these clubs show that I have initiative and leadership and organizational skills or would I actually have to perform well in competitions to have an effect in my application?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I think they'd boost it to an extent, even though competition results aren't in until later. Shows potential, in addition to initiative and leadership. Even with the competitions, though, it's not a significant boost.

It is always good to found a club.
