SATs- how many times can you take SATs w/o looking bad? My son (jr) took old one 2x, and new one once. Can he take it again and be o.K.? How many times did your children take? Thanks, any inforamtion much appreciated!

my daughter took SAT once in 7th grade- once in 11th grade ( spring) and once in 12th grade ( fall)
She took PSAT once in 10th gd ( I think don't really remember cause they did it part of school) and for sure once in 11th gd.

I don't think retaking it over and over again is usually worth it unless there is some compelling reason ( illness etc)
But considering the new Sat is now a factor I don't think taking it one more time early in senior year is a bad idea.

really doesn't matter, but at some point an adcom is going to wonder if the kid doesn't have anything else to do other than testing, such as ECs. Also, unless a kid really preps hard (thru self-study or a paid class), CB stats show that there ususally is not much of a score increase after the third time.

IMO, a kid should not take the test just for practice -- that's what practice books are for. S/he should only take it when they are ready.

ek raises a good point....tests taken while in middle/elementary school are NOT reported to colleges, unless you specifically request it.

i seriously doubt that this year of all years an adcom will think twice about someone taking the old & the new SAT twice each... beyond that i agree w/ bluebayou that adcom will begin to wonder if taking the SAT is a hobby or an addiction.
