Four Year Accelerated Masters Programs

Hi, I am graduating from my high school alongside a 2-year associate’s degree in General Science. I am planning to enter engineering and was wondering if any schools had an accelerated BE/ME (or the like) which lets students finish their bachelor’s and master’s in four years. An example of this is Vanderbilt, which has the Accelerated Graduate Program in Engineering (http://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/vandybloggers/2012/03/joint-undergraduategraduate-programs/). Thank you for your help!

Why do you want to finish in four years?
Are your grades good enough?
Some programs only admitt students who went there during freshman and sophomore of college.

You also may consider the fact that the sciences you took at a CC may not be at the same level as they would be at a top tier university. You first would need to see what credits each university will accept from a CC and consider if you should re-take any classes at the university. Honestly, I’d focus on getting into the best undergraduate program you can right now and then see how things develop once you are in college.

Its possible to graduate from USC [ Southern Calif] with a masters in 4 - 4.5 yrs if you stipulate your interest and get approval your Freshman year. Its called the Progressive Degree Program.

@NASA2014 I figured why not get a master’s degree in four years instead of a bachelor’s? I could stay at the same university but do graduate work in the four years I am there. I am applying as a freshman, but looking for programs that consider students with credits beforehand. Grades are excellent. @happy1 Yes, I believe a lot of colleges do not take all credits. I am definitely retaking physics. If anything, I want to see if I can lighten my workload a little with these credits. @menloparkmom Thank you, I’ll look into this one! One question: for their Traditional 5 yr Master’s, do you only get a master’s and not a bachelor’s?

you get both with either program, BUT with the Progressive you DONT have to take GRE’s.

apply BEFORE Dec 1 so you can be considered for USC UG merit scholarships!! [ no guarantee of getting any BUT IF you are a NMSF AND are accepted[ USC accepts fewer than 20% and acceptances to the Vertibi Engineering school are even more competitive] you will be awarded an automatic 1/2 tuition scholarship.
Are you a NMSF?

Northwestern’s McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science has a BA/MA option for every major that a lot of students complete. I know many students who have done or are doing it.

Here’s a link; see “Combined BS/MS Degree Program”: http://www.mccormick.northwestern.edu/academics/undergraduate/areas-of-study.html
