Our son graduates from the US Naval Academy this May and then proceeds to Pensacola for school. Exciting times!

calmom -- oh yeah, my older son -- expects to graduate in May! He graduated from high school in 2000. I didn't know about CC back then. Did it exist?

No, CC wasn't here then -- it went up sometime after my son was already in college, but I think it was while he was still there. You & I should get together in May when our sons graduate for a celebratory drink!

A long time lurker (all the way back to the old board). Came in for advise the year my son first started looking at colleges. He graduated in June from Caltech and is now a first year grad student at MIT.

Also got help with my daughter. She is now a sophomore at the University of Delaware.

Now enjoying the second year of the empty nest era, currently being interrupted by the temporary return of "those people".

Happy belated Thanksgiving to all.

CD,

Good to hear from you and glad to hear that all is going will with your son. Gosh it does seem like yesterday when we were going through the process and TheDad was counting down the 12 days of admissions decisions.

Like many others D is also a senior at the Animal House and has never waivered. It has been an amazing 4 years. She said she is taking a little break to work then will do a joint MST/JD.

Wow, the memories have really come flooding back all we really need now is a blast from the past post from Jamimom.

We miss Jamimom! Didn't her son end up at Yale doing theater, or something like that? I always worried that her kids would be "exposed", because she provided so much private information, but her advice was invaluable. Any new posters with "difficult" kids should definitely check the archives for her posts. Her tactics for organizing her difficult-to-handle kids were legendary. ;)

Thanks for starting a reunion, concerneddad!

Looks like many of us old timers are alums of the "old" forum. Maybe we should apply for CC social security! (Well, except for you young'uns, like xiggi. You can take care of us in our old age!)

I think lefthandofdog started a reunion of sorts like this not too long ago. I wonder if she is still around.

I first lurked and then joined the old forum when DS#1 was applying to Rice ED 4 yrs ago. Now he is about to graduate and I am in the same spot (dealing with applications) with DS #2. He (#2) has one admission under his belt, and he is plodding along filling out scholarship apps and such. He still hasn't decided if he is going to finish that last college application he started. Grrr. But I have learned from my cc compadres here that I have to let go and let him do what he is going to do. Sigh...

DS#1 is having fun with job offers, and trying to make some decisions about lots of things. It is an interesting ride, and it is fun, though I am also a bit melancholy, to watch them grow up and leave the nest for good. These brief visits back for the holidays are to be cherished, though I kinda wish he hadn't deleted a bunch of stuff from my computer when he cleaned it up for me yesterday. Kids!

Gee...I had forgotten about the "old forum". I was around for the change also...but a newbie at the time.

Addendum, concernneddad. The one school ds#2 is in so far is Tulane, and he really likes it. He is also interested in medicine. I would love to hear more about his years there, especially with the Katrina experience.

I am having fun looking at the number posts listed for the folks who have posted in this thread. I know many of us have posted a lot in the cafes, so don't see the total # of all posts, but wow-- post counts range here from less than a hundred to almost 10,000!

Still here as well. Son is now a senior at UNC, has never regretted his decision to accept the Morehead over Yale EA (hence my CC name) and is currently applying/interviewing for Med School. If he is fortunate enough to get into UNC Med School and decides to go elsewhere, I can tell you that EAmom and I are sure going to miss visiting Chapel Hill.

I've made many friends on CC and have been fortunate enough to have connected in person with a number of them while visiting S and D at their respective schools.

xiggi

Hope you end up where you want to be.....don't worry about the y'all......wear it with pride....LOL!!!

I've never been away for too long reporting on my university-based retirement job, and providing unconscionable bragging about my son who graduated USC in May 2007.

I lurked a while, remember the "old" board, and was also a refugee from that "other board from h*ll-("HTH"). S#1 is a first year grad student, and #'s 2&3 are high school sophs. I can't believe that in two short years this house will experience the application process X2.

Calmom -- If my oldest gradutates this spring, I would love to join you for a congratulatory drink -- I'll buy!

I remember how thrilled I was to find a forum to talk about colleges no one had heard of in my part of Tennessee . . . and found a bunch of friends at the same time. Have one in grad school at Penn (and thinking of dropping out of it,) one at Brown, a junior and happy as a clam, and one at Earlham for whom every day is an adventure of whether or not to go to class at 9:00 a.m. Parenthood. What a journey!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

jym: You can email me privately if you like. I do not want to get into too much detail, but Katrina was a life-changing event for my son and the other members of the Tulane Emergency Medical Service that chose to stay in Louisana and do relief work that entire Fall.

Tulane as a University raises issues for people, and there are some valid criticisms of both the school and the city. But, speaking just from our family's experience, the school has been nothing short of exceptional. Every promise made to my son was kept. Every opportunity offered acted upon. And every support the school had was made available to him.

A lot of the folks on here are listed as "joining" in August 2004. Wasn't that when CC needed to rebuild the whole forum? I honestly do not remember when I joined this but I know it was sometime after DS's HS graduation (6/2003). I just deleted that "other board" from my "favorites" this year....hadn't even lurked there in years.

Do you all remember a poster Hautbois? She is now my daughter's oboe teacher. I too have had the pleasure of meeting a bunch of folks here, and my daughter has met a few families as well (meeting them at her college for tours, or dinner or just to talk).

Thumper, you are right about the August 2004 date; like many others here, I was on the "old" board almost a year before that. I've been an active lurker, but only an occasional poster.
