Hi I'm deciding between schools and i really want to go to Indiana, however not sure if i can have a good time while still getting done what needs to be done academically. My question is which fraternities are good to rush where you can enjoy all the parties and there still considered reputable, however be able still to put enough time into studying to have a good chance of getting into Kelley as a Standard Admit?

You should have your priority straight. Your first goal is to get into Kelley. Lot of students can still have fun without being in a frat. I am not sure about the time commitment of rushing/pledging which usually starts around early Feb. Some are not bad. Work hard the 1st semester and join 2 clubs. The real problem is if you can keep your grades up for the 2nd semester. You can get a clue after your first semester. Don’t forget reviewing an earlier post on “strategies for std admit”. It would be helpful.

Your priority should be academics versus partying and Greek life. I was in a sorority, and everyone’s priorities were on their academics. No fraternity will give you a bid if you aren’t there for an education

You should rush after you get into Kelley. My neighbor was in the process of pledging last semester but he dropped out because it was taking too much of his time. Unfortunately, his first semester grades were terrible because he wasn’t used to the time commitment required for everything and in return is more than likely not going to get into Kelley now. I also met somebody the other day who told me they were denied admission to Kelley because their grades went down the drain while pledging. You shouldn’t risk what you came to Indiana for or any other school just to join a fraternity… at least until your secured into the program you want to be in and have a grip on what to expect from your classes because your undoubtedly going to be busier with your college work than you were with your high school classes.

On average, what kind of time commitment we are talking about for rushing (2-3) and pledging(1)?

Plan to rush the Spring semester. That way you can adjust to college life and decide if you really want to join a fraternity during Fall semester

You just have to be a good time manager. I imagine pledges still have study tables Sunday thru Thursday night where you will go together as a group and sign in in a quiet area so that helps.

Just had some info. The pledging started a couple of weeks ago. It will last until sometimes in April. A mild pledging schedule will take 10-15 hours/week pending your responsibility. The heavier one may be more. That is like taking a 5 credit hour course in the middle of a semester! For some, grades will take a hit.

Stay away from Fraternities. They are poison.
