Fraternity question

As a freshman if I am interested in joining a fraternity do I have to live in fraternity housing? On the website it says that 15% of freshman choose to live in Greek housing. How is that possible? I thought you have to become a full member to live in the Greek housing. I would like to experience my freshman year in a normal dorm.

You can live in the house as a pledge, that’s not a problem. In my opinion, it is best to live in house because you get to know more people and become closer with your brothers. It is also more convenient to participate in events and stuff.

Do you have to be a Freshman to join a fraternity or is it OK to transfer as a junior and join then?

Could I pledge but live in a residence hall my first year?
