Im attending umich in the summer, and i would like to join a fraternity. can anyone tell me what its like there? cost?

I heard UMICh despises frats, cause the guys end up in some mess like marijuana.

Not true. You can find drugs anywhere in some frats of almost any school (Yale's most infamous coke dealer comes to mind), but you can find drgus in many dorms, apartments, and houses, as well. I know a lot of "frat boys" and the vast majority are good, studious people who would never even think of doing drugs.

The admin does despise the frats, though. Good ol' Mary Sue has a 15 year track record of cracking down even before her career at Umich started.

If you're kind of timid or introverted and are looking for a group of guys to become friends with - or if you're shy and you want to a place to go have fun every weekend - or if that's the type of place you want to live your sophomore or junior year than a frat may be for you.

It wasn't right for me, but it may be right for you.

Call them fraternities, you don't call your country a c*nt- but yes, there are both good and bad fraternities. A lot of fraternities, good ones at that, like pike and fiji don't haze, but some like beta and SAE do haze. Most of the haing ones are on probation or have been kicked off.

That's just because you haven't been in AA long enough. I'm here all week folks.

There are all kinds of frats, so just be sure you check them out before you sign up. A few U-M chapters have been closed down by their national organization lately - for hazing and other problems. You just need to make sure you know what you're getting into. I think sophomores are more or less required to live in the frat - so you're going to have to think about what it might be like to live in the middle of a party all the time.
