What are the most popular frats on campus? What are the most popular JEWISH FRATS? When is rush? Any other info anyone can give on frat life would be appreciated!

It's silly to try to "rank" the frats. Everyone will have their preferences. ZBT has a semi-rep for being a jewish frat, but it's actually under 50%; AEPi is the most Jewish frat, in fact, but that's not saying it's popular.

As for rush, it takes place the first week of winter quarter for guys and the second week for girls. This gives guys all of fall quarter to meet people in frats, visit the houses, and get a feel for where they want to rush. It also gives girls lots of time to do... absolutely nothing!

How intense is pledging at NW? Is it as bad as it can be at other schools?

Anyone know anything about Pledging at Frats? Should I expect to be jumping in the lake naked at nite? Drinking 58 beers? Or hopefully something a little less mild. SERIOUSLY THOUGH, any insight as to what pledging is like?

If they tell you, they have to shoot you...

There arent any jewish fraternities with a notable social presence on campus. Itd be too controversial to post which frats I think are best, and I'm not going to bother giving names of any of the houses I talk about. If you'd like to know the general campus feeling of each fraternity, you should buy a copy of the purple book and they have a Greek section where they talk about each fraternity and sorority in detail, and rank the top 3 frats and sororities in many different areas. Different houses have different pledge processes, some are really time-consuming and require alot of actual work, some have gpa requirements, some require community involvement, my pledge process consisted of different nights of getting wasted essentially with special activities, and then a few days where you have to live at the house which was mildly grueling, but ours was laid-back this year. Looking across the window at the house next door we saw all the guys naked and running in circles though. The pledge process is nowhere near as bad as at other schools. At unc, for example, in one of the houses, all the pledges of a frat will have to get branded or something,

this is where I ask myself, "self, is it worth it to get branded like a future source of steak?"

Is that really true about Jewish frats? I heard ZBT and AePi were pretty big on campus from a few friends.

AePi isn't very well known ... ZBT has some good parties, and they seem like good guys. AePi is the only official jewish frat though, i think.

THANKS. Any additional info about "frat life" and/or ZBT would be appreciated.

ZBT is a regular frat, I'm pretty sure it's just coincidence that there are a notable amount of jewish people in the frat. You shouldn't come to the school with any ideas, go through rush and find the one that best fits your personality, since it's not like the frat is religious.

^ What he said.

what about sigma chi?

hows general jewish life on campus ?

Lots of people are very active through Hillel- reform and orthodox alike. It's so easy to get involved, or simply go to the occasional shabbat dinner. We have an overrepresented Jewish population here so I wouldn't worry.

I know generally the big party nights at college are Thursday and Friday, does the same go for NW? How often are there nights on weekends where there is little to do? LET'S HOPE NEVER!!!!! Also are Freshmen ever turned away because of seniority?

Thursday and Friday and Saturday. There is always something to do as long as you TRY. Honestly even if there's no big campus thing going on... go into Chicago or something.

Monday nights everyone goes to the keg, which is a bar in evanston, its packed the first couple weeks of the quarter and after midterms. Thursday nights, everyone goes to the deuce which is in chicago but relatively close. Both are lax with id's(deuce much more so) but you need an id for either. There are usually other things going on on these nights as well but thats what you can expect year round. Fridays and saturdays, there's usually a party at one of the frats and always offcampus parties. If you're in a social dorm, people will always just be staying in and drinking with friends on the weekends. Once you come here and have a defined social clique you have a better idea. I never had a problem getting into a party fall quarter. During winter and spring quarter, at more crowded parties, you usually have to be a girl or know someone in the frat. Aside from house parties, frats and sororities have things on random nights of the week whether it be mixers, pregames, pledge events, date parties, crush parties, formals(these are only once a quarter per house), etc. These are for members and whoever they invite. Most of these(all of the last three) are off-campus events and in chicago.

What if you're not in a frat/sorority?

Then you don't have formals and crush parties? You just find other things to do.
