Free Med School... or Free Ivy League Undergrad?

Pick the cheapest option. No one cares where their doctor went to medical school, even less where they did undergrad. Four years of tuition + fees at Penn will cost upwards of $350K.

Medical school debt can be crushing, especially because the loans become due as soon as you graduate. But your salary won’t be enough to make meaningful payments until you complete your residency. Many residents forbear their loans during residency. So a $350K loan can quickly balloon up to $500K+. This is a lot of debt to take on as you begin your life.

Doctors are well paid, but it makes no difference where you graduate from. Top students from Wayne State will be just as competitive as students from Penn for the best residencies.

Pitt might be an a ademic safety for you based on your stats, but it is about $30k for instate students, unless you get merit.

Maximum state and Pell grant, plus student loan adds up to about $15,000.

You indicated that your family is low income.

How much is Penn’s room and board? Since you would only have tuition covered, is the remaining cost affordable?

^I’m guessing that if R&B is too expensive, since OP’s parent works for Penn, OP could commute with their parent.
