Free press article on Michigan football breaking NCAA rules

Thoughts on this?
and for those who haven't read the article
Michigan football program broke rules, players say | Detroit Free Press | Freep.com

Oh wow I certainly wouldn’t have expected this from University of Michigan, or any university within the Big Ten. Definately surprised.

Yeah I’m pretty surprised too. It seems like it’s all Rodriguez’s fault, and not the players which is good I guess o_O

^anyone who is surprised by this is just naive. What I’m truly surprised about is CURRENT players making these claims. It’s one thing for the transfers and graduates to take some shots, but these are guys playing now.Team unity/morale out the window. I was excited for the season (and still am), but this is just a downer.

I think it’s a good thing that they feel bad they’re cheating though…

Oh no! What’s going to happen now? This is so important!

^
Ofcourse it is, the NCAA is involed. Have no ideal what is going to happen next though, just know there are tons of articles written on it.

This whole article is nothing but an attempt by the Free Press to get more people to click on their webiste so they can drive up advertsing rates. Every day they print something that irks the Michigan faithful and ends up generating hundreds of comments. The Free Press is a failing newspaper that is relying on sensationalism to hold on to it’s dying readership. Heck, they can’t even home deliver a papers any more than three days a week now. Go read MgoBlog.com and you’ll see what’s really going on. At this point it’s a whole lot of nothing about nothing using the old unnamed sources b.s. that only a newspaper can get away with.

You guys are all idiots. The NCAA will most likely not even investigate. As far as the 20 hours per week, USA Today said the average team practices over 44.8 hrs/wk. Chad Henne says: “Twenty hours is a very, very small portion of what you do, especially if you’re a quarterback at a high-profile school,” Henne, now with the Miami Dolphins, said in a phone interview Sunday. “Twenty hours isn’t enough for you…"
“I really think whoever’s saying it really doesn’t want to be there,” Henne said. “If they’re saying that then they’re not really worried about the team, they’re not worried about what they’re going to do during their season and they’re kind of just giving themselves up. That’s just negative talk right there. So whoever it is just really doesn’t care about the team, I would say.

“If they’re complaining about that, then they don’t want to be the best they can be and that’s their own fault.”

rjk, you read mgoblog? what’s your username (if you have one)?

I read it, I never post.

jrt336 I don’t see how you can call us all idiots, while students on the UM football team ( which obviously your not) make these claims. They know more of whats going on then you, and doubt they would make any efforts to claim us idiots as you’ve done ignorantly yourself.

There’s no doubt in my mind nothing will happen sanction wise. But you gotta be fooling yourself if you don’t at least take credence to what’s being reported. It’s happening, they’re practicing more than they should, you shouldn’t just dismiss it because its unnamed (Taylor’s Sunday quote = credible). Still, it doesn’t bother me. It’s to make the players the best team they can be. What’s wrong with that? But what’s troubling is these kids on the team are b!tching. Reading Brian’s stuff doesn’t make team chemistry all better.

Calling people idiots is kind of harsh. CC is probably not a place where the posters have an in-depth knowledge about sports. I give them a pass

This stuff goes on everywhere pistons08. There are always disgruntled players who feel that they’ve been short changed. My problem is with the Free Press putting this garbage out less than a week before the first game. You have to be fooling yourself if you don’t think this is a deliberate attempt by some people to undermine RR and the entire football program. Do you honestly believe that they just figured this stuff out in the past couple of weeks? This whole thing reeks of bias!

Not really surprising considering it is DickRod. The NCAA probably should not investigate, it seems like every Big Time school does it.

But, knowing the NCAA, and how they ignore everything USC does and penalize stupid trivial things other programs do, expect an investigation.

You guys are acting like this is a big deal. Everyone practices over 20 hours a week. Obviously it’s expected you make it. If you want to play, you need to practice more than 20 hours a week. I just can’t stand people who know nothing (State fans mostly) and are like “Oh my god, RR is such an idiot. I’m so glad he’s coaching them because they suck now.”

I agree jrt that’s the first thought that came to my mind when I read the article, if the Detroit Press or anyone is accusing Michigan of practicing 20+ hours a week, why not USC and Florida? No disrespect to either school because they are the two clear powerhouse football programs of this decade (even though Michigan has been historically better than USC or Florida I have to give credit where it’s due), but there is no way USC and Florida practice any less than Michigan to be at where they are at right now.

I honestly think this will pass over if we win games this season, it rests on Denard and Tate, but I’m pretty sure Devin Gardner will start in 2010. From what I hear, Devin Gardner will be the savior of Michigan football, he’s getting a lot of hype in Southeastern Michigan and across the state.

Garnder probably won’t start. Most likely a reshirt and will start as a junior. That’s assuming Tate steps up as a better than average freshman qb, which I think he is. If he doesn’t play well, than Denard has at least a 50/50 shot at winning the job his freshman year.

Read what Chad Henne said. Then think “did Chad Henne ever have a season where they won 3 games?”

That pretty much settles the matter. **** the Free Press…they might as well be the Spartans’ student paper.
