Which is faster? Collegeboard claims that SAT scores sent with registration is the "fastest way to send scores," but if that is so, I don't understand why Carnegie Mellon would tell me to rush ship my January test scores in. Does anyone know? Because I would much rather send the free scores than have to rush them the day I get them and spend 40 dollars..

bummmmmmp.

When you designate colleges to be sent scores automatically, and the colleges have electronic delivery (virutually all now), CB actually sends those scores about two days before they are even released on-line to you, meaning two days before you can even order them sent rush. Moreover, electronic delivery for most means they have an on-line account with CB. CB “sends” the scores by simply loading all the information into that account. It is then “received” by the college whenever it feels like going into that account and downloading the scores. In other words, the automatic send to designated free send colleges via electronic delivery should arrive before a rush send. Most likely what you are dealing with is that years ago before CB had electronic delivery, Carnegie put on its site that you needed to rush Jan scores to get them there on time and Carnegie has just failed to ever change that info on its site.

if admissions says the January scores are the latest they’ll accept it should be fine to use the free ones with registration. I would go ahead and order it now.

Okay, thank you both so much!
