(FREE STUFF INSIDE) Chances at UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO and other schools?

I promised free stuff, so heres a link to some free toothpaste: http://www.knockoutbadbreath.com/site/1395773/page/567211
and no thats not some fake link, I actually received it in the mail, hahah. Now on to business...

Please give this thread a look and offer any insight you can. I really want to go to University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), but my grades haven't shown any improvement throughout highschool (my junior year grades were actually the worst). I go to a fairly competitive school, so my class rank is complete crap due to my GPA. However, I took the ACTs and did fairly well with a 31.

For ECs, I was in "Youth and Government" sophomore and junior year, played tennis through our park district through all 3 years (but not from school), I was part of the Principal's Advisory Committee, in which me and about 30 other people in my lunch period would meet with the principal each month and talk about things which need to be dealt with at our school (such as garbage on the floor, school lunches, etc.). I'm also part of a youth committee at a cultural (Indian) association, where I basically just find things for the kids to do or help host children's events (this doesn't have any affiliation with my school). Also, I've been volunteering at a hospital once a week since sophomore year and have accumulated about 105 hours.

I'll probably apply into most places as undeclared, especially at UIC, since I probably won't get into the program I want directly anyway (biomedical engineering).

To clear up any confusion, I failed honors pre-calculus during the school year 2nd semester, so I'm taking 2nd semester (regular precalc) over the summer again. The GPA is on a 4.0 scale for regular classes, and on a 5.0 scale for honors/AP classes...

ANY comments, words of advice, criticism, suggestions, and so forth are welcome. THANK YOU!

PS: Feel free to add any suggestions to any other schools in on around Illinois that I should apply to. I've already gotten into Illinois State University, and will probably get into Northern Illinois University according to what my guidance counselor tells me. UIC is my top choice though!

Grr. I should’ve given you the free toothpaste AFTER you replied, you greedy toothpaste hoarders!

lol… bump…

Apply to Embry-Riddle. It has a 85% acceptance rate and is the world’s best aeronautical university!

Thanks. Anyone else?

Bradley University in Peoria is a decent university with relatively lax admission standards

A 31 ACT is an excellent score. You do well in summer school which suggests that either the school environment during the regular school year somehow adversely affects your school work, or you do quite well when focusing on just two subjects. Consider Colorado College or Cornell College, which is in Iowa. Both are well respected schools-- Colorado College is considered an elite school. Both schools use a “block” style curriculum where you take one couse at a time which meets daily. You are highly intelligent as clearly shown by your ACT score of 31. You can present a strong and compelling case for admission to either of these schools, even though Colorado College is ultra selective, you are a good candidate for admission. Good luck! (Possibly, Colorado College may consider you as a provisional student). Cornell College is also a well respected school and has an exchange program with Colorado College as they are the only two block system curriculum colleges in the country. This way you can experience both schools. And Colorado Springs, Colo. is gorgeous!

Thanks! I’ll look into those. Anyone else?

I would go with state schools easier to get in, UIC seems a little too high, i mean you have a good ACT score but your GPA is really low is it like a 3.0 or something for your hs career? Unless you had something specific that prevented your academics colleges will look at you as indolent/ apathetic towards grades.

What about one of the two most intellectual schools in America, St John’s or Reed? I bet you could get into SJC Sante Fe. You have to like to read and read some more. But it won’t bore you like it looks HS does.

For UIC, you have a very good ACT. The average ACT is about 24 at that school. However, your GPA is very low for UIC. The average high school rank is top quarter, and GPA is somewhere in the low to mid 3s. At UIC most undeclares apply to LAS. You’ll need to write an essay.
UIC college of engineering has the most intensive transfer requirements of all the undergraduate colleges.
