Please list Science, Math and Humanities programs.

Thanks a lot.

Have you looked through http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/343495-summer-programs-look-good-college-applications.html</a> yet?

Yes, but I just found this “Free summer programs/programs with decent scholarship” which is more along the lines I was looking for.

Thanks for your response.

I know of one in Canada that’s physics-based. It’s ISSYP. You have to pay for transport to Canada only.

[Naval Academy STEM Program](http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/stem.html)

My DD went last year as a rising 8th grader and LOVED it. She had a blast. I know it is only 5 days - but hey - it is FREE (well you have to get yourself there and back). If you live within driving distance of Annapolis, MD then that is great.

It is for grades “rising” 8 - 11 …

Hope that helps someone !

If your state has Governor’s School, those are usually free and some take sophomores.
Try googling “free summer” and “high school”

If you’re in CA, apply for Caltrans SEI. It’s AWESOME.

Eva,
This looks like an interesting program. Dd your DD meet many kids from other regions at the camp? What is the quality of the students attending as judged by SAT etc. and/or actual engineering interest/ability? I would assume that it is higher caliber than CTY camps because it is free. What is your take?
Thanks!

Hello again -

My DD met students from ALL over of the country - up and down the east coast and as far as California, Wisconsin and Alaska … locally (Metro DC - Northern VA - Maryland).

To begin - a note - last year STEM was for grades 7 and 8… this year they decided intensify it for grades 8 - 11… so the depth will obviously be different. If it wasn’t exam week at my DD’s school she would be going back.

DD said the classes “lectures” came first followed by a hands on approach and then a presentation approach to each topic they covered. It is a shorter experience so there wasn’t an enormous amount of time to go VERY indepth; however, the material they covered was superb and they had a GREAT time.

I can’t comment on CTY - because my DD hasn’t gone there - and the time length makes it hard to compare. Obviously CTY is longer allowing students to go a great deal further. However, for a 5 day program that is FREE I would encourage you to apply and do both !

It is ABSOLUTELY worth your time to drive down here to attend.
