Question?? Once a student is accepted to Tulane, how does he/she enter the Freeman School of Business and when can he/she apply?

Jozuko - I’m sorry, but if you didn’t select the Freeman School on your original application, it’s too late. You are totally screwed and there is no way to change it now. I am surprised you didn’t see that when you applied.

OK, I am completely kidding. Hope I didn’t give you a heart attack. Kind of an inside joke that you would only get if you read some of my old posts, because this gets asked every year about both Freeman and the Architecture schools, but especially Freeman.

The answer is that you just sign up for business courses and go. There is no separate application. This is one of the great things about Tulane that differentiates it from so many other schools. When you apply to Tulane, you apply to Newcomb-Tulane College only. The five individual schools (Science & Engineering, Liberal Arts, Public Health & Tropical Medicine, Architecture and of course the Freeman School of Business) are all under that one umbrella, and all students are free to pursue degrees in any one (or more) of those schools. You don’t have to declare a major until after 4 semesters, but if you tell them right away you want a business major they will assign you an advisor appropriate to that track and make sure you get the right courses, including a business oriented TIDES course. So once you are in Tulane, you are in the business school as well if you so choose.

This is also why it is so easy to change majors and double major at Tulane, especially the former when compared to some other schools. It is a simple as a very short form that you submit and if you change after freshman year from business to, say history, they will assign you a new advisor that will work with you to make sure that you can complete your degree in the next 6 semesters while fulfilling all the requirements for that major and for the School of Liberal Arts.

OMG Fallen! not funny!!! (ok, maybe a little funny!) I read your first sentence and nearly had a heart attack!! It’s a good thing that I kept reading! You gave me a good laugh! As DS’s unofficial college adviser, I was the one who checked over all of the applications, making sure that all of the appropriate boxes were checked, all i’s dotted and t’s crossed. I was pretty proud of myself and was considering going into business until I read your response. OMG can you imagine if it was my fault that he couldn’t be in the Business School! Thank you for the information. I was looking on the Tulane web site today, looking for info and didn’t see anything. I think it’s great that any kid who is interested in a particular area can pursue that major. Yet another good thing about Tulane!

Sorry! I do have a prankster streak.

The Freeman School is incredibly exciting with so many innovative programs going on in entrepreneurship, energy, finance, and now an increased emphasis on accounting. The new Dean is one of the country’s leading academics in accounting. Your son will love it.

My heart skipped a beat with the first sentence as well!

Wow, sometimes the timing of things is just too good!

And again, sorry if I caused a few white hairs, but April Fools’ Day just doesn’t come at the right time of year for this forum!

it’s ok fallen, i forgive you!
